Are you going to vote in the Euro elections?

I’m working in a polling station and am wondering how busy it will be. Usually it’s the quietest of all the elections (in my little polling place, General/Scottish are the busiest, then local, then Euros). I feel I may need more books and food to keep me entertained this time. It’s a very long day!!!

Yes, it will be my first opportunity to vote!

SophiaLarsen · 29/04/2019 19:46

I will be voting. I vote in all.
My local polling station said police commissioner elections were the worst for footfall.

prettybird · 29/04/2019 19:47

Dh and I will definitely be voting - and ds too, provided he is back down from Uni (although he's ambivalent as he thinks that Brexit will help advance the cause of Scottish inpependence). Our choice is easy Grin

Absolutely. Can't understand why anyone wouldn't.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 29/04/2019 19:54

I always vote! People died to get me the right to do so!

*Yes. I've sent my email address and postcode to a site which will advise how to vote in your area to get a remain candidate to win (in theory!)

Can you please share this? By PM if you’d rather?!*

I’d be interested in this too...

Watto1 · 29/04/2019 19:54

Macaroon At the referendum poll, my presiding officer’s mum lived literally steps away from the polling station. She brought a full, hot roast dinner for each of us! This time it’s me that lives just down the road. I might have to talk dh into bringing us fish and chips!

NoTheresa · 29/04/2019 19:55

Of course.

SpoonBlender · 29/04/2019 19:59

Yes, definitely.

Macaroonmayhem · 29/04/2019 20:00

Watto that full roast dinner sounds amazing. Once I was doing it in my kids school and my friends were messaging me asking if I wanted them to bring anything when they came to vote. Someone brought ice for my coke!!

I’m in a new one again this time, same box, slightly different venue and miles away from anyone I know. ☹️

Yes, I always vote, particularly as a woman given we couldn’t always do so and in some countries still can’t.

No idea who the candidates will be yet but our MP turned into a TIGger so I am expecting that group to field someone.

MightyAtlantic · 29/04/2019 20:01

Yes. I always vote. I'm in Scotland too - voting has practically become a hobby over the last few years! Wink

ChangedToday · 29/04/2019 20:04

Yes. I always vote.

Aimily · 29/04/2019 20:05

Yes, I firmly believe that you should always exercise your right to vote, even if you feel apathetic and spoil your ballot paper.
By not voting you have absolutely no right to complain. I've had stand up rows with friends about it.
I'm a fairly passionate person when it comes to politics anyway, but I'm very very passionate about exercising your right to vote.

Pilcrow · 29/04/2019 20:08

I will most certainly be voting, and DH is working overseas so I'll be casting a proxy vote for him, too.

HelloJackieYouLookNice · 29/04/2019 20:08

I have had my polling card (Wales) and dh (EU citizen) got his today. I’m voting Plaid - I’m generally a labour voter but I am livid after the last GE and won’t vote for them this time - I’m not letting my vote contribute to the ‘80% of voters voted for Brexit supporting parties’ again crap Angry

averylongtimeago · 29/04/2019 20:09

I will be voting, by proxy as away.
Tactical vote for the pro EU candidate most likely to get in.
I will hold my nose about their other policies on this issue, more important to keep the Brexit lot out.

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 29/04/2019 20:09

I always vote, even if I spoil my ballot.
I need to do a lot of research for this election. I believe Tommy Robison is standing in my region Hmm

OliviaBenson · 29/04/2019 20:19

Which is the remain vote website? I've googled but no luck!!

Gertie75 · 29/04/2019 20:21

I always vote.

A question for those who man the polling stations though - why don't we have to show our polling cards? it seems too easy to vote twice, I'm only ever asked for my name and address then it's crossed out, what's to stop me going back up later and giving my neighbours name and voting again?

I should add I have no intention to do it but always think something so important should be more secure, we should have our polling card and proof of id.

Macaroonmayhem · 29/04/2019 20:55

Gertie - that’s a fair point and I don’t know the answer to it. We have info in our handbooks about ‘personation’ which is what you describe and what we do if we suspect it. I think we’re aIl be relatively confident in saying I might recognise you if you came in twice. There’s also a process for if you come in to vote and someone has already voted using your address. There are LOTS of processes!

While we’re talking about the actual process can I get something off my chest - the pencil marked votes can’t be got at, rubbed out and redone! The number of people who come in flourishing their own pens and tell me it’s so I can’t change their vote....I nod and smile, but inside I’m rolling my eyes big style. 😂

Yes, I absolutely am. I'm an EU national and I always vote in local elections and EU elections, and I still vote in my home nation's general elections because they don't have a cut off beyond which you lose your vote.

Snowjive2 · 29/04/2019 21:00

I think the website PPs were referring to is remainvoter.com. You give your postcode and they will email nearer the time if the elections with the best party to vote for in your region if you want to remain.

DippyAvocado · 29/04/2019 21:04

Yes, but I always vote in every election. DP is also going to vote though and he hardly ever votes.

moonrises · 29/04/2019 21:25

Yes I will be voting, probably change uk.

I moved last year so next week and the EU elections will be my first at a new polling station. I will miss my old one, which is at the dc's school. I am pretty certain they get passed a school dinner to have.

ForalltheSaints · 29/04/2019 21:26

Yes, just having to decide which pro-Eu to party to vote for (not Labour, Tory, UKIP or Brexit in other words).
