What age is appropriate to be using/watching TikTok?

I was led to believe it was for teenagers but does anyone think it's acceptable for younger children to watch? I ask because MIL looked after my 6yo and my niece (7) yesterday and when I went to collect her they were watching TikTok videos. BIL and SIL are openly more relaxed with their parenting - DN has an iPhone and WhatsApp. But I work in a secondary school and have heard teenage pupils talking about the videos, the website states 13+, how worried should I be that this has happened?? I asked them to turn it off straight away so didn't see myself what they'd watched, DD said it was just silly videos like pranks. I did raise it with MIL and also BIL that I didn't think they were old enough but neither seemed in the least bit concerned Confused

In terms of watching the videos there is all sorts of everything on there.

A lot of good stuff but also some bad. I’ve heard bad language and songs with sexually explicit lyrics but also beautiful videos of wildlife or extracting pearls etc.

My DS uses TikTok in a very limited capacity. You can turn restricted mode on so they cannot see some material. He makes videos but he’s not searchable and no one can follow him so they’re not viewable to anyone but himself.
