Out of date Mozzarella

DivisionBelles · 28/04/2019 16:14

Should I use it? Forgot to buy the mozzarella for my gnocchi bake, but found an old one isn't fridge, still sealed, not puffed up in the plastic at all, but dated to 12th April. Should I go for it? I don't usually worry too much about slightly out of date yogurts, cheese etc, but not sure about this.

I'd use it, but I'm very relaxed about dates. Open it, have a look, give it a good sniff & you'll know if it's off.

sonjadog · 28/04/2019 17:08

I would eat it.

MustardScreams · 28/04/2019 17:08

It’ll be fine if there’s no mould.

I'd probably eat it

MrsBertBibby · 28/04/2019 17:10

Taste it. It goes bitter after a bit, so won't be nice to eat.

dementedpixie · 28/04/2019 17:10

If it's going to be cooked and it looks/ smells ok then I'd use it

AfterSchoolWorry · 28/04/2019 17:10

It'll be nice and rubbery!

Hadalifeonce · 28/04/2019 17:12

I put some on a pasta bake recently which was 3 weeks past its date, we all lived.

BertBox · 28/04/2019 17:49

I keep buying mozzarella that goes off before it's bb date - taste some and it'll be VERY obvious if it's off!

TheQueef · 28/04/2019 17:51

How does cheese even have a date?

Arnoldthecat · 28/04/2019 18:01

Id sample it and if it looks and tastes ok then it is ok !

OneThreadOnly0101 · 28/04/2019 18:03

This is the third thread about expired food I've seen this evening. What's going on?! Hmm

titchy · 28/04/2019 18:06

I'll eat it Grin

TeaAddict235 · 28/04/2019 18:30

I eat it but then get monstrous wind the next day Grin

Yourenotheonlycuddlytoy · 28/04/2019 18:31

I ate some seriously out of date mozzarella once and it was the most disgusting thing I’d ever put in my mouth, and there has been competition. Open it, use your nose, then sample a little bit. If you’re not up chucking in the sink then go right ahead with your meal.

Prequelle · 28/04/2019 18:35

What's with all the out of date food threads today? I'm sure this is the 4th

nauticant · 28/04/2019 18:41

What's with all the out of date food threads today?

Probably people having loads of food in for Easter and losing track of it.

SummerHouse · 28/04/2019 18:45

Totally fine especially as it will be cooked. Enjoy.

ItProtectsMyHead · 28/04/2019 23:57

DH are some cheddar today that went out of date on March 18th and he seems fine. On that basis I'd probably eat the mozzarella.

DivisionBelles · 29/04/2019 07:25

We ate it, but it was not good. It had a sort of sour milk taste. We've survived though but I'll have to make sure I check the depths of the fridge more thoroughly in future.
