USB stick accidentally gone through the wash

Accidentally washed DH's jacket with an important usb stick in the pocket. I can't confess because he specifically told me it was in one of the pockets but I clearly forgot and bunged it in the machine. It's been drying for about five hours and when I plugged it into the laptop only one excel document was on there and it appears to be corrupted 🤦🏽‍♀️
There is supposed to be a number of PDF's on there but nothing else is showing. Does anyone have any ideas what else I can do to try and recover the files.

I don’t think the water would have just corrupted a document... it would either make the usb stick unusable or it would work fine?!

I would stick it in a jar of rice for a day, then try again.

If he knew there was a USB stick in, why not take it out before putting it in the wash?

WhyNotMe40 · 27/04/2019 21:55

I've washed them with no ill effects before. Let it dry properly before trying again

The usb stick lights up so it's not died. I have no rice in the house at all!
He didn't put in the wash, it was hanging up so it's totally my fault!

USB sticks have a chip in them, so no moveable parts and thus shouldn't be impacted by the washing machine. Mine has gone through with no issues countless times. Pretend you did nothing and confess if he asks/brings up something having gone wrong with the files on it

Put in on the side and act innocent. If it's broken, it wasn't you Wink

It should be okay, they normally survive!

Going to test it out in the morning and see what's what. I could kick myself, it really was about a ten minute gap between me asking what needs to be washed, he said 'the jacket hanging up does but the pockets need emptying' and then me grabbing it and putting in the machine.
