Haven't had mine yet, but I'm thinking of doing a nostalgia 80s 90s pub quiz.

Actually went clubbing for the first time in 16 years. Did enjoy it, but truthfully I'm too old for that shit 😂

tararabumdeay · 27/04/2019 17:27

I hired a hotel for two nights with 16 friends and 5 children - did a quiz the first night and a fancy dress murder mystery for the second. Then we all went camping for the rest of the week.

Jackiebrambles · 27/04/2019 17:28

I hired a room upstairs in a pub. Paid for some nibbles/ bit of a buffet and had a fab 80s/90s playlist so we all had a good drink/a bop!

I wasn't sure I wanted to do anything really bit of a hassle with two young kids but I'm really glad I did!

moomoogalicious · 27/04/2019 17:30

Had a party and Hired a cocktail waiter

xsquared · 27/04/2019 17:33

I like the idea of going away somewhere but we've already booked a holiday to go to my country of birth later in the summer.

I understand Jackie. I'm not really a party person myself which is why I think a pub quiz with might work better for me.

BTW, you're not the Jackie Brambles are you?

Grinha ha, no! She just popped to my mind when I was thinking up a Mumsnet name!

NeverTalksToStrangers · 27/04/2019 17:39

Mine is this summer. Having party at the house i think. I did look at booking private event at a bar but they said no kids after 9pm, which was a deal breaker.

I'll get some food ordered from butchers, but family planning to cook also.

My sister wants me to get a band for it but I have a decent karaoke machine so that will hopefully do.

Weekend on a European city break. Gorgeous!

VeniVidiViciTwice · 27/04/2019 17:40

Not had mine yet but going indoor skydiving (basically a wind tunnel) followed a by a takeaway Chinese from my fave restaurant and a bottle of very naice champagne.

Ikeameatballs · 27/04/2019 17:41

Day at the races with a bunch of girlfriends. It was a glorious, sunny, lovely day. Would have been a bit shit if it was cold and rainy though!

groundcontroltomontydon · 27/04/2019 17:42

Ran a marathon

PandaG · 27/04/2019 17:42

Long weekend away with DH, coincided with a scout camp rather pleasingly, so childcare was sorted for most of it, a lively friend had the kids the Thursday night and was emergency contact for mine as well as her kids for the weekend. Then dinner out with girlfriends, and much later had a low key bbq/ house party as a joint 40th nearer DH's birthday.

Lovely day out with dh, nice meal and theatre and a trip to New York a fortnight later

Likethebattle · 27/04/2019 17:53

I’m abroad for mine in a sunny place with a sea view and 🍸 🍹

amandacarnet · 27/04/2019 17:55

DP organised a romantic weekend away, and I threw a big party for all my friends.

AragonsGirl · 27/04/2019 18:14

My husband and I are 40 next year, birthdays are about 3 weeks apart. We’re going to have a couple of child free nights in London, and go on the Harry Potter studio tour

mycatisblack · 27/04/2019 19:33

DH threw a party for me at home and organised everything then we went to NY for a long weekend a few weeks later.
That was brilliant.
However.... when I turned 50, DH did nothing special. I got some Cadbury's chocolate bars (from young DS) and a fairly ordinary camera I'd asked for which had been bought about a month earlier because my old one was broken but nothing else on the actual day. Not even a meal out in a pub. NADA. No effort taken.
Must admit, I sulked for ages about that. In my defence, I'd bought DH an expensive electric guitar as a surprise for his 50th a few years earlier so I was expecting a bit of fuss to be made.
So, whatever you do, make sure your OH knows what's expected. Better to warn them in advance than be very disappointed. Grin

We're both 40 next year. The dream was 2 weeks in the Maldives. Reality will be a weekend somewhere. No parties, probably a family dinner.

We're a few months apart do weekend away will be in the middle.
