IVF timelines understanding, 3 cycle questions

Me and my husband are trying to understand the IVF we are doing. I have done the medication and had an egg collected. We are up for 3 cycles. How was the experience for you? Do they do all the egg collecting first then implant them? Or do they do one cycle then implant the embryo and you get the rest of the cycles afterwards?

Did your clinic not go through this with you?

Not properly. We have sent an email to explain it better to us. Are they centres that do frozen and others do fresh embryo transfer.

You had an egg collection and one egg was retrieved? When was this and have they now attempted to fertilise? Normally with multi cycle packages yes you would aim to have an embryo/s transferred each time. But it will depend on the quality of any embryo that may be created.

Normally you have medication egg collection - depending on how many eggs and the quality and if your centre offers it (most do) the healthy ones get frozen and one egg gets transferred. (Occasionally two but again depends on centre - I had two as my second wasn’t good enough to freeze but was possibly good enough for it to take - one of the two luckily took) If that egg fails; they may offer a frozen round; if frozen round doesn’t work you start a fresh cycle. So back to the meds; egg collection; implant/frozen; and so on.

Good luck

When did you have it collected? It’s not good that they haven’t explained this to you op. We had appointments with the consultant and nurses to go through our treatment plan at the beginning, and then we’re given a sort of flow chart with the procedures and dates on, with medication and doses, etc.

Actually, there is so much discussion and paperwork at each appointment about the next steps, I’m a bit at a loss as to how you can not know! Which clinic are you with - are you in the uk?

Finally had a discussion with the centre. They will do the 3 egg collections before implanting them at a later date. It seems centres all do it differently. Hopefully a next cycle soon.
