Are pierced ears going out of fashion now?

Provoked by the thread about Claires I have been thinking about all the teen girls I know and now the people in their twenties at work and I can't think of anyone wearing earrings.

When I was a teen everyone had pierced ears and wore earrings.

My holes had closed up after 2 years no earrings

I have pierced ears but barely ever wear earrings, every few months.

My dd is 15 and hasn't got hers pierced and doesn't want them done. I got mine done age 7 and ended up with 3 in one ear and just 1 in the other. I got the 3rd hole repierced recently as it had closed up after not wearing earrings for years

All DDs friends have ears pierced in various ways, although few would wear a nice matched pair of conservative studs.

Old codger here, I don’t leave the house without earrings in! I feel undressed and anxious.

On a couple of occasions that I’ve forgotten and not been able to return home I’ve fretted about it and had to find somewhere and buy some.

I think more people now have things like daiths and rooks and industrial ear piercings than the traditional lobe piercings.

I think they're becoming less popular now, though I can't see them ever dying out. I think the trend away from piercing babies and young children means that fewer people will choose to have them done themselves. I had my ears pierced when I was a teenager but haven't bothered with earrings for about 30 years now.

I hope so - I don't have mine pierced (tried as a teen, lobes and that top bit, all closed up) and I don't really want to get my dds' ears pierced. Dd5 is in reception and I've not noticed any kids in her class with earrings yet.

As a teacher of teenagers I can tell you that piercings are common and a ruddy nuisance. School policy says they can have one pair of studs. About half my Y11 form have 2 or 3 earrings in each ear, which they moan about taking out or putting tape over. Several have tongue piercings or a nose stud (again....against school rules) and a couple have their nose pierced rather like putting a ring through a bull's nose.

I have 3 in each ear. My daughter has one in each ear, though she rarely wears earrings. All the girls she knows ( 13yrs+) have pierced ears, quite a few have multiple piercings.

No, I don't think so. Google Maria Tash.
