Has anyone taken inositol for anxiety?

And what does did you take?

I'm going through a very stressful period in my life- got a lot of shit going on and I'm really on the edge. I think I have anxiety and wanted something natural to get the edge of it. I can feel myself slipping into depression and descending into a downward spiral which I don't want.

Can anyone tell me if inositol has helped with their anxiety or indeed, any other natural supplements?
TIA

I've never tried inositol but a good magnesium supplement seems to help me - I take amazon.co.uk/Together-Helath-Natural-Magnesium-Capsules/dp/B00CBXJNZ2/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=together+magnesium&qid=1556367557&s=gateway&sr=8-4 this one]]. It's not an instant fix but it does help if I take it every day.

My DH has started this 2 weeks ago for OCD & anxiety. Only gone up to 6g yet, supposed to take 12-18g which seems like loads!

No effect yet.

@spiderlight how long did it take for the anxiety reducing effect to be felt? Did blood tests show low magnesium levels before you started to take it?

spiderlight · 27/04/2019 16:31

I didn't have blood tests so I don't know whether my levels were low. I started taking it to try to help with my chronic migraine and noticed after maybe two or three weeks that I was less anxious.

I also think magnesium is worth a try. It has helped me.

Thanks @spiderlight :)

Just one a day of the tablets i linked to above

There is very little evidence to support the use of inositol for anxiety, and where a benefit was found the dose was around 18g. Supplements range in strength from 200 mg to 1,000 mg, so you would need to take anything from 90 to 18 tablets/capsules per day.

AS LONG AS YOU'RE NOT TAKING ANY OTHER ANTIDEPRESSANTS, prescribed or herbal (sorry for shouting, but it's incredibly important) then I'd recommend St John's Wort. Its benefits for anxiety and depression are well researched, to the point where Germany's Commission E (which looks at alternative remedies) has certified it as effective and so it is approved for prescription by doctors as an anti D alongside pharmaceutical ADs.
