DH can be very strongly opinionated and I'm coming to realise that he struggles to empathise with others.

Without going into specific subjects, I can argue my point until the cows come home and he will still not get my reasoning.

The only thing that will work is me having to say "how would you feel if you were 'X' or 'X' happened to you" and then it's like a light switch - he can understand my POV. Not that I'm always right or he agrees, but he takes my point.

It's exhausting.

I think lots of people only see their own experience. Well done for finding a way to get through to him. It is very difficult to talk to someone with entrenched views because often disagreeing can seem like a personal attack.

I've found Mumsnet very useful to me as a way of getting an insight into lots of different people's lives and experiences. I know there are lots of trolls and it isn't the most diverse place but I've read of opinions and events I otherwise would not have been exposed to in my cosy echo chamber life.

Absolutely Marvellous I just feel like I have to be the "adult", no one spells it out for me.
