How often do you eat out/get takeaways?

And how much would you say you on average spend on it in a month?

I’m currently trying to save and have tracked all my expenditures and I’m shocked to see that I’ve spent over £200 on eating out/takeaways this month - not including normal food shopping!

Want to see what the average is!

Once a week at least.. Probably around £200 per month.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 27/04/2019 11:04

I’ve never added it up but prob too much!
Myself and dd6 would go to coffee shop once a week after school for lunch.
We eat out as a family once a week and order a take away once a week too.

Nuttyaboutnutella · 27/04/2019 11:07

Very rarely, maybe a handful of times a year. We eat out mostly for family birthdays, and takeaways for stuff like Mother's Day. We have a 2 year old and I'm heavily pregnant so date nights are rare, though when they're older, I'm sure we'll eat out more.

To be fair, I just don't really enjoy takeaways. There's only 2 places I enjoy them from, both of which are on the other side of the city and don't deliver so too much of a pain to collect (they're Excellent Indian restaurants which do take out).

I don't like Chinese, only eat meat from local butchers so McDs/KFC etc are out, and hate Dominos.

DP makes fantastic pizza which I much prefer, and his own KFC style meals. Given the option for an easy meal, I'd prefer to get stuff like camembert, olives, stuffed vine leaves, fresh bread and so on with a nice glass of wine.

DP might have the occasional McDs or Dominos every few months with work.

Christ. We hardly ever have a takeaway, or eat out. Bucket full of chicken, or a curry, occasionally.
We clearly do it a lot less than most! Shock

gingajewel · 27/04/2019 11:18

We used to have one every week but our New Years resolution was to only have one a month on payday or special occasions such as kids birthdays! So we now probably spend £30 a month. We very very rarely eat out as I find it pretty expensive! I have been out to eat twice this year but both times just me and my friends not with family.

WhatNowRandy · 27/04/2019 11:22

Take away on average maybe twice a month, but this isn't evenly distributed, as it's much more common when I'm unwell, and when I'm well it's pretty rare.
I'll say on average £30.

Eating out, if counting things like lunch in a cafe, maybe three times a month. I think £40-£50 a month.

SpinningDizzy · 27/04/2019 11:25

We had a takeaway 5.5 years ago. That's the only one I've ever had. Eat out at a restaurant I'd guess 12 times a year but concentrated over summer/winter, not really in spring/autumn.

Theoldwoman · 27/04/2019 11:26

A couple of times a month I'm guessing.

Price irrelevant to you as I'm across the other side of the world.

Backseatonthebus · 27/04/2019 11:29

Takeaway maybe once every two or three months. Meal out less often. We prefer to go away for short breaks regularly and if we have a meal out I find myself thinking 'that's a quarter of a short break'.

Bringbackthestripes · 27/04/2019 11:34

Takeaways once in a blue mood. Eating out maybe once or twice a month.

Turquoisetamborine · 27/04/2019 11:44

We eat out probably once a week as a family. Bill is usually £30-£40. My husband gets a lot of free vouchers from work though and we have a Tastecard so it isn’t that expensive. We try to go out as a couple every 2-3 months and that will be about £60 for the meal and drinks. Our favourite Indian restaurant is BYO so the bill there will only be £25 for four of us. I don’t waste expensive meals out on times we have the kids with us.
We don’t get takeaways unless a dire emergency as the ones round here are awful, not that I’m complaining. If we had Deliveroo it would cost us a fortune and I’d be fatter 😆

robotwindows · 27/04/2019 11:46

Probably £500 a month but could easily be much more. I'd say 1-2 deliveries a week (Deliveroo) and 1-2 meals out a week (sat/sun lunch). But we can afford it so it's all relative.

LucheroTena · 27/04/2019 11:49

Eat out twice a week, sometimes three times. Takeaway might be substituted for one of those meals out, maybe once a month. Too often really but we like our food.

MrsAmaretto · 27/04/2019 11:55

Probably about £200 too. I was out for breakfast and lunch yesterday 😬

I’m either meeting friends out or taking the kids out once at the weekend (£35) for a change of scenery!

bitchfromhell · 27/04/2019 12:01

Takeaway once a fortnight, about £30 a time. Only because we have a young baby and don't go out anymore. I was never a fan but now it's a bit of a treat not to have to cook.

Nnnnnineteen · 27/04/2019 12:19

Cut mine down massively. Last year I think we probably only ate something i had cooked once a week which was about £1k a month! Now we only eat out once a week, although it it's a busy weekend that could go up considerably. £200-250 is probably usual now.

Clutterbugsmum · 27/04/2019 12:19

A lots less now the children are older it's just too expensive. We probably have fish & chips about every 8 weeks. And that's nearly £40 for 6 meals (we always get some for my mum).

Chinese is over £60 for the 5 of us and that's nearly a weeks worth of shopping, again why we don't eat out again it is too expensive.

pontiouspilates · 27/04/2019 12:23

Don't do takeaways. Eating out - lunch about once a week, dinner approx fortnightly.

Jennywallpaper · 05/05/2019 11:33

@Sweetdisposition91 I'm so glad I found this thread, I've been tracking ours recently and we're spending around £250 per month on takeaways and the odd meal out, it's so much money for us!
It's made me so angry and embarrassed as I'm always saying a can't afford things and would love it take the DC on holiday but always thought we couldn't afford it, know I now we can if we just cut back.
I'm trying so hard this month to just cut it out and cook at home, we've managed a week now without one and that's very good for us.

maddiemookins16mum · 05/05/2019 11:36

Takeaway the weekend closest to after payday (so last night). Eating out varies, once a month, sometimes twice but then we might go 2 months not eating out. Average takeaway cost (3 of us) £25, eating out £40 ish.

CherryPavlova · 05/05/2019 11:40

Takeaway rarely (we don’t have any near here) but sometimes get fish and chips to eat on the sea wall after we’ve walked the dog. If it’s raining we eat them under an umbrella.

Meals out more often either at friends (where we share courses or eat free) or at restaurants/pubs/ our club. Probably twice a month in the evening but also maybe three or four lunches.

Plus work meals but they don’t count.

AGoodWench · 05/05/2019 11:43

Once a quarter. Roughly!

cantkeepawayforever · 05/05/2019 11:44

Takeaways almost never - we might get in pizza as part of a teen child's birthday, but even that might be every year to couple of years.

Eat out maybe once every 3-4 months when at home, though obviously if we are on summer holiday we eat out more regularly (though we do always stay in self-catering so cook at least one meal a day, quite often both).

Just not that into ready-prepared meals, tbh - DS buys himself sandwiches or something once a week because he attends a course a 45 minute train ride away once a week, and part of his routine is getting himself lunch, but otherwise we make and take rolls / sandwiches.

Sarah22xx · 05/05/2019 11:45

I don't really eat takeaways, I normally treat myself to an Indian once every few months though

Aberforthsgoat · 05/05/2019 11:45

We usually get a takeaway once a month if that and eat out once or twice a month, more often likely to be once
