Quick house tidy

SheStoodInTheStorm · 27/04/2019 08:33

We have a guest arriving in an hour. What can I do in that time to help the house look presentable? It's not dirty, just untidy and I am tempted to just gather it all together and hide it

Had a really tough time the last couple of weeks so have focused on spending time with DC and chilling out. Housework has taken a bit of a back seat!

I have just cleaned the bathroom and toilet so that's a start!

I am a stick in a cupboard till later kind of cleaner in an emergency.

Empty any waste paper bins.

Gather things off chairs - shove in cupboard

Plump cushions.

Wipe/clear the first surface they see as they come in.

IVEgottheDECAF · 27/04/2019 08:36

Move all the stuff

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 27/04/2019 08:36

Put it all out of sight until later. Job done.

DonPablo · 27/04/2019 08:37

Clean and clear sinks always has a big impact and one tidy room to sit it.

MorvaanReed · 27/04/2019 08:38

Get a big carrier bag or several, chuck all the clutter in and stash behind the sofa/under the bed or whatever. Have a grand sort out when the guest is gone.

moosesormeece · 27/04/2019 08:40

Go round and pick out any obvious rubbish/recycling. Then gather what's left after that and hide it isn't that what tidying is?

AmethystRaven · 27/04/2019 08:41

Shove kitchen stuff in the oven (don't forget and turn it on!) and throw living room clutter on your bed and shut the door. Whiz the hoover round and as you already have a clean bathroom put the kettle on, that'll do! I think lots of us have hovels less than perfect homes after the Easter hols Grin

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 27/04/2019 08:42

Whizz round with a couple of carrier bags, remove all clutter and stick it in a cupboard until later

Quick flick round with a duster if necessary

Put shoes bags coats etc out of the way

Load dishwasher and tidy sink and wipe down kitchen worktops

Pop the hoover round quickly if you have time/if it needs it

AmethystRaven · 27/04/2019 08:43

And I hope things are going better for you now and it's a lovely welcome guest coming, although unexpected.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 27/04/2019 10:16

Thanks all! Hoovered, wiped down kitchen surfaces and cleared the crap from the kitchen table. Have shoved washing etc in the bedrooms and shut the doors! It's not perfect but it'll do.

Thanks so much @AmethystRaven - tough time ahead for us and this guest is a most welcome surprise and wouldn't care about the house, but I do x

Well done OP! That's what I usually do, clean kitchen and bathroom, shove stuff under bed/away somewhere and Hoover. Voila!
