Fluoxetine - side effects getting me down a bit! (Weird acid reflux)

I have been taking Fluoxetine for about five weeks and I am keen to continue with it as it’s definitely helping with my mental state (no sobbing at my desk at work, etc....)

But I am having some annoying side effects. The main one has been to do with sleep - in that I am just not sleeping as well, although it’s manageable. But the main annoying thing is that I seem to have started getting some acid reflux (this is what just woke me up) and this weird hungry feeling occasionally (also at night) which I assume is to do with acid reflux/heartburn as well...

Having googled, this seems a common side effect. Has anyone else had this?

I don't remember having any effects, good or bad when taking it. But Gaviscon Advance is good for reflux. I drink it out of the bottle a few times a day.

For sleep I'd ask a pharmacist what could help that won't interact with it.

Yes I was going to say talk to the pharmacist too - good luck

When do you take it?

Do you take it in the evening or in the morning? I found my side effect symptoms much worse immediately after taking it, which is why I take mine in the am. It has still meant I have incredibly vivid dreams though!

Yes, I had horrible acid reflux when taking it. I used to find taking it in the morning and eating straight afterwards helped.

Hey! I totally get where you're coming from—I’ve been on Fluoxetine for quite a while now too, and honestly, it’s been a game-changer for my mental health. I always get mine from this pharmacy: topsup24.com/buy-fluoxetine-uk.html, and the quality has been consistently great. But yeah, I had some rough patches in the beginning as well.

For me, the first few weeks were a bit of a rollercoaster. Sleep - messed up. Weird appetite changes - yep. And acid reflux - ohhh, I feel you on that one. It was super annoying, and at first, I thought it was something I ate, but turns out, it’s just one of those side effects that some people get.

What helped me was:
Eating earlier in the evening – no big meals close to bedtime.
Avoiding too much caffeine & acidic foods (bye-bye, too much coffee and spicy stuff, at least for a while).
Propping myself up a bit while sleeping – keeping my head elevated really helped with the reflux at night.
Drinking a bit of warm chamomile tea – sounds cliché, but it actually soothed my stomach a bit.

The good news - it does get better. For me, the reflux faded after a few more weeks as my body adjusted, and now I barely even think about it. If it keeps bothering you, though, you could try an OTC antacid (after checking with your doctor, of course).

Hang in there! It sounds like Fluoxetine is already helping with the emotional side of things, and hopefully, the annoying side effects will ease up soon. 💛
