Does anyone currently have the hiccups? Can you try this 'hack' and see if it works.

I watched a 'life hacks' video on social media that said you have to put both arms in the air to stop hiccups. Well I tried it today, and it worked. Told DH and he's googled but can't find any evidence that it actually works. So was it a fluke? DH doesn't believe me.

As demonstrated by Barbie.

I will try it next time :)
I usually eat a pickled onion. Which presumably is the nicer version of a teaspoon of vinegar

QueenBeex · 26/04/2019 23:27

I think it was a fluke

Graphista · 27/04/2019 00:46

Makes sense actually as hiccups are basically caused by your diaphragm being in spasm and this would stretch it out.

However the thing I've found always works is take a deep breath in and "pretend" to breathe out but don't and stretch the diaphragm that way, hold the breath as long as possible at least 20 secs then very slowly breathe out and hold the complete "our breath" for at least 10 secs

I've rarely found it didn't work first time, occasionally I need to do it twice.

I hate hiccups as they make me feel very nauseous which few people have said is same for them so would be interested if others have same?

It's not a fluke! It worked again.

What works for me Is taking a deep breath, tucking chin to chest and swallowing. I teach so I tell it to kids and it works for them too usually

StealthPolarBear · 02/05/2019 08:53

They don't make me feel nauseous but they do make me feel exhausted and unable to catch my breath

PointlessUsername · 02/05/2019 09:00

I get horrid hiccups alot, i will tryit next time .

SlimGin · 02/05/2019 09:19

Just got hiccups after my breakfast, it worked for me!

listsandbudgets · 02/05/2019 09:24

I tend to hold my breath and swallow at the same time. It usually works for me

SilverySurfer · 02/05/2019 09:46

If I get hiccups I stir a stainless steel knife in a glass of water and then drink the water - it usually works but sounds bonkers.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 15/06/2019 10:13

Reviving this thread to say it also worked for me just now! I remembered this thread and lo and behold!!!

Mollypolly2610 · 15/06/2019 23:48

What works for me is fill a glass with water and drink out the “wrong” side of the glass

katewhinesalot · 15/06/2019 23:54

Drinking out of the glass the wrong side always works for me too.

Ohyesiam · 15/06/2019 23:56

Holding my breath works for me
