I fell in love with Gdansk. I was all set to buy 2 flats, live in one and rent out the other. And learn Polish so that I could make a living teaching English. Then I realised how difficult Polish was.

Also, 3 weeks later, having travelled round the country, I found the history just too depressing.

Love Gdańsk and Sopot too ! Just like Amsterdam in many ways.

Ellabella989 · 27/04/2019 07:17

Gdańsk is one of the best cities I’ve ever visited!

Years ago we travelled round Poland, Warsaw, Krakow, Sopot, Gdansk and Gydnia. Loved it. Aim is to go back once kids a bit older.

My parents home city, so I’m a little bit biased Grin but it is truly stunning - especially in winter when there’s snow on the ground and Christmas lights everywhere.
Paying the entry fee (around 10 Zloty) to do the full visit inside St Mary’s Basilica is well worth it - it’s one of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever seen.
