Was I rude to sit in the car?

Dd - 3y/o is asleep in the back of the car. We're going out with an elderly relative for lunch. Dd has only been asleep for 10 mins but needs at least half hour to make it through lunch without a tantrum.

We're at relatives house purposely early to see other people who have popped in (DH's cousin). DH has gone in and says it looks rude that I'm sitting in the car with dd.

I can't see Dd or even the car from relatives flat (car parked at the front), flat is at the back, so I'd have to keep popping out anyway. We're parked on a road not a drive or car park. Plus if we locked the car and Dd woke up she's set the alarm off, probably scaring the life out of her.

I can't believe all the people acting as though a 3 year old...4 in 6 months..can't cope with one meal out! Ffs...no wonder nursery teachers are complaining so many children aren't capable of behaving well!

If you think children shouldn't be able to sleep when they are tired you shouldn't be in childcare.

If you think the definition of a well behaved three year old is being able to sit through a leisurely afternoon lunch (when tired no less), then you shouldn't work in early years.

** Sorry, OP, I meant she, not he.

And I meant to say it looks a bit rude, unless your DH explained properly. I'd be one of those bringing you a cuppa while you waited it out.

Well I sat for 15 mins then woke Dd up.

Can't tag people but she always has 45 mins to an hour. She's a good sleeper but an early riser, 5am usually. She was up at 4am today (strange place, out of routine) but did snooze until 6. We would have done the nap at another time but we only had the car journey between two relatives houses. She rarely sleeps in the car now but when she does she always wakes up when the engine stops. And no way would she have gone back to sleep once lifted/transferred out of the car.

Lunch was still a bit crap anyway, very nice restaurant (but not overly kid friendly), quite a long lunch, but a bit boring for Dd who was good for the majority of it.

She is 3!! Why is she still in need of a nap EVERY day?

I'm 65.

Would LOVE to have a nap every day!

So all good and nothing for HennyPenny to crow about.
