Sea sponge tampons, anyone use them?

I'm trying to be more environmentally friendly and am intrigued by the idea of these. I won't use a mooncup as I've read a couple of posts on here over the years about people struggling to get them out.

And this is my main concern with the sponges, there's no string. How easy are they to remove?

Also how often do you need to get new ones? They're more expensive than tampons but can be washed and reused but at some point apparantly are no good and need binning. Just trying to work out how long I can expect one to last.

Oh I like the look of the MeLunas with the ring, might pluck the courage up and order one.

"So sea sponges are classified as animals. However, they have no brains, nervous system or organs. When sponges are harvested, the top is removed, which they cannot feel or have any way of knowing is happening, and the base is left and they just grow back"

But then I guess a lot of fuel is used to power the boats to go and harvest the sponges so maybe a cup is more ethical.

I’ve used sea sponges and they were fine. I use a menstrual cup and cloth pads now which I prefer. I have a pack of disposables for if I get caught out, I’ve used 6 in a year 😂

Who the hell looked at something growing in the sea and thought it the perfect thing to shove up their fanny?

Humans are strange man.

Poor sea sponges :( I'm not convinced that they are not sentient.. Also sounds like an infection risk.

Ive just ordered a nixit to try. Mooncups were uncomfortable for me . Reusable pads bunch up so I thought Id go for the nixit

I use a moon cup. Honestly the best thing EVER. I did follow the packet instructions when I bought one and it did indeed get stuck like an immovable suction cup which was not good to say the least.
I contacted the company who take much more specific information about your body, exercise habits etc to determine which cup will fit you, they sent me a replacement which is perfect. You dont need to change it for hours, give it a quick rinse or wipe in between changes and boil it in between cycles. It's better than any tampon has ever been.
I'd say consider calling mooncup to ask about appropriate sizing, they may be able to advise me. I think stories of them getting stuck are when people have the completely wrong size, definitely in my case anyway.
Good luck
