Baby still feeds every 2 hours at 14 weeks old

I'm still exclusively breastfeeding and proud of myself for doing so but my baby at 14 weeks is still feeding every 2 hours day and night. Some times he only goes an hour before wanting a feed.
I know sometimes he likes it for comfort and I'm fine with that but I have read most things say he should be going longer between feeds by now.

He has Plenty of wet & dirty nappies and is a very happy baby, but is something else wrong?

He was checked for tongue tie when he was only a week old but I'm wondering if he does actually have it after all?!

How long is each feed?

KitMarlowesPufflingPants · 26/04/2019 06:07

My dd is 15 weeks old. She's still feeding around every two hours, sometimes every hour, our longest stretch of sleep was 3 1/2 hours (once!).
It's tiring but pretty normal I think.
My ds's were similar but by six months they were both down to a feed or two a night so I'm hopeful there's an improvement in sleep in sight!

Not what you want to hear but my DD didn't go longer than 2 hours until well over 6 months. Perfectly normal!

I'd try a dummy. Could be they are suckling for comfort.

Ds2 was like this and just needed that extra comfort. Ds1 just spat them out.

No advice, but my 14 week old (10 corrected) is the same. My first was similar so just have to remember it gets better. They’re all so different at this age, it can be pretty normal I think.

ClaraLane · 26/04/2019 07:25

Please don’t worry, this is completely normal - this article might help put your mind at rest www.emmapickettbreastfeedingsupport.com/twitter-and-blog/the-dangerous-game-of-the-feeding-interval-obsession

I wouldn’t give him a dummy now if he doesn’t already have one. Do you have pain on feeding? You’ve said he’s gaining well and having plenty of wet and dirty nappies so he doesn’t necessarily have a tongue tie. It could just be that he’s more of a snacky feeder rather than filling himself up completely every time. Have you thought about safe bedsharing during the night so you can get more rest? www.lullabytrust.org.uk/safer-sleep-advice/co-sleeping/

My DD still fed every 1.5-2 hours when she was 12 months 😬

HoneysuckIejasmine · 26/04/2019 07:30

My ds is 18 months and if I'm there, he'll still feed at least every hour in the day. I might weaned him a few months ago. He manages perfectly fine if I'm not around, so he doesn't need to. But it doesn't bother me really.

Cookit · 26/04/2019 07:31

I don’t think this sounds remotely unusual or concerning in any way unless there is a weight gain issue or less wet nappies than you’d expect.
