Has this got to be the most garish house ever seen?

My eyes! There are other colours than white and black. Such a shame what they've done to an otherwise stunningly Art Deco building

Of course it was black and white. If you look at Laurel and Hardy films everything is black and white. There was no colour, which was not invented until near the second world war. Colour is a relatively new thing. Art Deco antiques you pick up are clearly fake if they have a coloured slip.

Nanamilly · 26/04/2019 12:57

The house is beautiful and the interior colour scheme would make it very easy to change to your own liking.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/04/2019 12:59

Is it totally in keeping with the style of the house? Was 1930's Art Deco that clinical?

No, I mean you're not going to put traditional country style furniture in somewhere like that.

It is extremely clinical!

Al2O3 · 26/04/2019 13:01

Needs a Chesterfield chintz sofa with some anti macassars with lots of lace hanging off. And a cobweb or two. Just to add some germs.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 26/04/2019 13:04

That beautiful wooden floor replaced with shiny white tiles! .
It's not like Wales is a hot and sunny country Confused.

I really don't like the interior at all .

And the hideous driveway! fuck that's criminal.

(I used to have a recurring dream which was in black and white, it was set in WW2)

I genuinely thought the pictures were in black and white until I saw the grass through the window. I quite like it (but couldn't be comfortable in it) and I love the house, but to me Art Deco is more like this, all glamour and mirrors... www.luxdeco.com/blogs/styleguide/timeless-art-deco-interiors

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 26/04/2019 13:06

I suspect its been done up purely to sell and no one actually lives there.
It's actually a blank canvas.
Wouldn't take much to soften it.
I'd ditch the black curtains and blinds, introduce a bit of colour but not too much.

I actually thought that they were black and white photos that had been colorised!

BlueMerchant · 26/04/2019 13:07

Could be so beautiful. It's a waste of what could be such an beautiful home.
I wonder what it would look like with 'stuff' in it. The most interesting thing I saw was the Dove soap in the bathroom. Stood out a mile in all that monochrome.

Dowser · 26/04/2019 13:21

I love it.
My type of house to a t

Would maybe swap black curtains to white but that’s all

Dowser · 26/04/2019 13:22

In fact mine is very similar...not on such a grandiose scale though

DonkeyHohtay · 26/04/2019 13:26

You do know that garish means bright, colourful and lurid don't you?

Black and white isn't garish. It is however incredibly dull. Yes monochrome is in keeping with the 30s style of the house. But it just shows you can push a theme far too far.

CrazyOldBagLady · 26/04/2019 13:28

The decor reminds me of the film Beetlejuice when the new family move in and decorate. In fact they look like they've made their bathroom blinds from Beetlejuice's trousers. I guess they must have fancied a change from the black and white decor when decorating the guest room, so went with grey instead.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 26/04/2019 13:39

The first thing I'd have to do would be rip out all that tarmac and hideous astroturf and get some things growing around it. I'd have to reinstate the sitting room fireplace, as well.

I wouldn't have a problem with the rest of it as a starting point, i could live with it, briefly.

Merename · 26/04/2019 14:04

Oh man it’s awful. For me that’s not a blank canvas at all, totally tacky and would need a lot of work to fix. Like others I prefer the vintage look.

midsomermurderess · 26/04/2019 14:21

How is black and white garish? The decoration is easy enough to change and anyway, what a fantastic house.

CassandraCross · 26/04/2019 14:23

That beautiful wooden floor replaced with shiny white tiles! .

My feelings exactly bibbitybobbityhat.

It really doesn't scream Art Deco interior to me at all, it is a totally unsympathetic restoration to the style and design of that era.

I wasn't suggesting country house furniture Dame and agree that too would not be in keeping with the house but what has been done to this interior isn't either.

Sofialemon · 26/04/2019 14:34

The pics of the house before it was renovated show the original features, some have been retained, the staircase and it looks like the bathroom basin is the original.

The house overall though is furnished in a kind of Next/Very catalogue bling idea of Art Deco and is not very sympathetic at all!

Sofialemon · 26/04/2019 14:39

These pics show more usual Art Deco interiors.

Lol thos house is two min from me. I drive past it every day..... they have utterly ruined it.

FrogsAreMean · 26/04/2019 15:47

I would bloody LOVE to live in that house! Just me, all by myself wondering around those beautifully clean rooms and relaxing in my monochrome heaven - ahh wishful thinking.
