Has this got to be the most garish house ever seen?

My eyes! There are other colours than white and black. Such a shame what they've done to an otherwise stunningly Art Deco building

This house is two minutes from me!
I rememeber when it was falling apart with red window frames!

ineedaholidaynow · 26/04/2019 00:26

That house is the complete opposite of garish, isn’t it?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/04/2019 00:29

It's stark not garish and it's totally in keeping with the style of the house. That said ,I wouldn't like to live there.

weebarra · 26/04/2019 00:36

I like it. I love the old kitchen tiles though.

CassandraCross · 26/04/2019 00:40

Is it totally in keeping with the style of the house? Was 1930's Art Deco that clinical?

FiremanKing · 26/04/2019 02:13

It’s beautiful.

BusterGonad · 26/04/2019 02:42

I can't see the photos for some reason!

Al2O3 · 26/04/2019 03:29

Remember that Art Deco was originally at a time before colour TV was invented so everything would have been monochrome, this was a time when everything was in black and white.

EnidButton · 26/04/2019 03:39

It looks like it'd be rented out as a holiday or events place. I don't think anyone lives there.
The furniture and fittings are modern but in keeping with Art Deco style. They haven't ripped out all the original features. Other than the flooring it'd be really easy to change the decor.

Neither Art Deco or monochrome is my thing so personally I wouldn't like it at all but I don't think it's that bad.

PhoenixBuchanan · 26/04/2019 03:39

The house itself is indeed stunning. It's got tons of curb appeal. The stark black and white decor is another matter however! I don't find it very sympathetically done or in keeping with the Art Deco character.

EnidButton · 26/04/2019 03:43

It was an ugly ol' fecker from the outside originally wasn't it? Not convincing me away from thinking all Art Deco houses are monstrous. Apart from the stained glass some of them have.

LightDrizzle · 26/04/2019 03:46

They’ve done a wonderful job on the exterior.
I’m sure the interior could easily be rescued from its current monochrome plight. They’ve been a bit rigid and missed the mark but reclaimed a stunning building.

Bravelurker · 26/04/2019 04:00

Have you ever seen Once upon a time? The evil Queen Regina I think her name is had her house just like this and I absolutely loved it.

tiffanygoldduck · 26/04/2019 04:37

How do you see how it looked before??

BusterGonad · 26/04/2019 05:13

I've managed to view the photos, I preferred it before! Blush I couldn't live in a black and White House (it is nice but not for me). The grey room and the film room were nice. I HATE all the tar Mac. Vile.

tiffanygoldduck · 26/04/2019 06:24

Seriously am I missing something lol ?!

Shutuptodd · 26/04/2019 06:28

I love it. Especially the cinema it's like something from a Tim Burton movie.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 26/04/2019 06:36

Gosh, I'd be straight down to B&Q to buy some paint!

MyHeartIsBrokeButIHaveSomeGlue · 26/04/2019 06:39

I quite like it in parts!

Don't get how you can see the photos of what it looked like before either @tiffanygoldduck!

30not13 · 26/04/2019 06:42

Very sad to imprint your own tastes on the children's room.
Other than that I like it mostly.

PlatypusPie · 26/04/2019 09:37

They could have gone the extra mile with the pool. Friends of mine refurbished a pool and put in dark grey tiles to get a more natural effect. On a brilliantly sunny day it is very effective and looks like a woodland pond. On a more average day it takes courage to dive into what looks like an unnerving bottomless black pit.

applesarerroundandshiny · 26/04/2019 09:43

Hmmm I wouldn't want black decor but if the black was painted say, blue, I would absolutely love it and that would be really easy to do. I like the grey room.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/04/2019 12:50

What?Confused Grin

The world wasn't black and white before colour TV was invented! Google Art Deco and see the colours that were used, chrome and starkness was only a small part of it.

LarryGreysonsDoor · 26/04/2019 12:54

I think that was a joke.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/04/2019 12:56

Oh,was it?Blush
