How long usually after being exposed to a virus/bug would you show symptoms?

Ok I am paranoid I am going to be ill after looking after a child who came down with a horrible sickness and fever bug today
I am going away on Monday for a very rare 3 days away and I am convinced It's all going to go wrong.
How long after being exposed to a bug would you expect to show symptoms?
Would it appear very soon e.g in 24 hours or can it lay dormant for a lot longer?

Sorry impossible to answer as totally depends on the bug involved.

Different bugs have different incubation periods,but in general,sickness/stomach bugs,including the norovirus can be anything between 12 and 48 hours.
