How far are you in your decluttering mission?

I am nearly there I think. I started five years ago on a thread on here 'm' minimalism thread where I was due my first baby and stated to sort old cards and old bits and pieces.
I am at the point today (after watching kondo on netflix) that I had another boost and sorted things into categories. I now have a birthday box (candles, balloons spare cards all that) a lightbulb box with spares a homework box a stationary box. Etc etc.

I am naturally disorganised but I get things done. This is making my life easier. Sorting toys today (on annual leave)

My favourite thing is my label maker and plenty of see through bags Wink

So close to being there.

House is easier to keep clean - everything clean and tidy, not shoving things in one room...

But Inlike it clutter free and we have no room for 'extras'. Dcs brought a kit back home the other day with stuff needed for their sport and there's no place for it - I'm trying to work out what we don’t need to make place for it...

Have you got ikea trones. If you have white walls they look really discreet and are relatively flush to the wall. I have a few in dcs room for swimming stuff and extra teddies.

I haven’t, but I keep looking at them! I don’t quite have the wall space (awkward shaped rooms/ bad radiator placement).

I want to improve our furniture now it’s more of a feature!

Getting there! Just had a key moment when I went up to the loft to get summer stuff down and there was a single small bag rather than the sackloads there used to be. My clothes drawers are all kondoed and Instagram- worthy Grin

I'm finishing off perfumes, make up and not buying unless it's to replace.

This has taken a couple of years at the rate of a big charity shop bag per week.

Ha! We're sooooo far the other way.
DH is a bit of a hoarder, but wants to be tidier. Yet doesn't want to part with stuff.

We've just forked out for new windows and doors and have had to move and sort plenty of things for the fitters to get access everywhere it was needed.

He's not in a hurry to shove it all back and has his eye on several pieces of furniture he wishes we could do without. So he needs to get on the sorting and throwing out now - one is his clothes. Another is shoe storage in the hall.

I've been tackling some areas this week and have filled 3 bin bags with unwanted and un-needed stuff.

One DD is already pretty minimalistic.
The other likes nice things on display, but is otherwise tidy. She's sorted out a big bag for the charity from her room after having a sort out and a move around.

So, progress made, but soooo far to go. I'm too scared to watch the Kondo programme.

No watch the kondo programme. You will feel inspired!! Wink go for it. It's taken years for me. Nothing has happened overnight that's for sure.

Sporadic efforts here. I've done some baby clothes, some of my clothes, a box of random cards, instructions and paperwork. So much to go though. I need a regular slot. I aim for a bit every night but it never happens. House is not too bad as I'm super strict about what I buy.

Lyns20 · 26/04/2019 22:58

Need some advice... my 14 year old has a good bunch of freinds she’s had since p1 and she is doing great at school excellent reports and very high marks...but she very rarely goes out to hang out with her freinds after school or at weekends she just wants to sit in her bedroom... her freinds say they ask her to come out but she always says no... but they say she’s fine at school...she hardly talks to me or the rest of the family it’s a struggle to get a few words out of her... it’s really worrying me 😪

EdtheBear · 27/04/2019 10:10

Lyns20 I suggest you start a new thread.

Decluttering honestly I feel I'm fighting a losing battle. 6 bags to charity shop this week and it still doesn't make a difference to my downstairs.

We are over run with toys. My kitchen worktops are dumping grounds for all sorts of random stuff. The oldest kids room is embarrassing.
I don't know where to even start.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 27/04/2019 22:42

Well, I do love the Kondo programme!
I've never fancied folding my clothes before! They obv get folded to go in the drawers, but not that neatly.

So I may be inspired a little after all.
