What do you do at the gym?

I want to start going to the gym to improve my fitness levels and lose a bit of weight, I just have no idea where to start!

What’s a basic routine I could start with?

You could consult the gym staff and get a program made up. I go to a couple of classes plus 2 gym fit sessions which are sort of like a circuits class held in the main area of the gym

I had this same question when I wanted to start!
I did an induction where they showed you how to use each piece of equipment and I asked the guy who gave me a suggested routine.
I don't really like going so just do yoga you tube (Adriene) at home now though!
I think it was bike for 5 min warm up, a machine to warm up your arms 5mjns, rowing machine 5mjns, running machine for as long as is comfortable with slight incline sometimes, then some weight machines for arms and legs.
You need to gradually increase the incline and speed on the running machine and also the weights.
Wow it's so much easier to tell someone else what to do at the gym than do it myself 😂

Love cardio with my music-absolutely fires me up& i stick to various samey themes
on treadmill(hills, powerwalk, jog&interval training) and similar(sprints&long distance mix ups)on rowing machine.Sometimes cross train with swimming drills with paddles/fins&then bodyweight stuff like push-ups,sit-ups&balance board at home.Weights every other day-mainly coz i need a challenge&enjoy feeling strong&capable. You can get a basic feel for how much stamina/strength u have by doing a basic circuit&re-assess every2weeks as you get fitter/stronger&u may have goals/PB in mind.

I don’t like lifting weights at all so I do 20 mins on the bike without a lot of resistance to warm up. 20 mins of intervals on the rowing machine and 20 mins of 5.5km/h walking uphill on the treadmill. Sometimes I walk to the gym - 4 mile round trip (usually I regret it when I have to walk home).

I am rehabilitating my knee atm, hoping to join a squad at the rowing club when it is a bit stronger.

Like spring said really, start small and build up and yes, it’s much easier to tell someone else what to do Grin.

I'm doing couch to five k at the Lome t and just focusing on that. Once I'm more confident with my running and am brave enough to do it outside, I'll move onto weights and stuff.
