Does your brain work like this?

Would be really interested if others have similar experiences!

I've been thinking a lot recently about how strange (my) memory is, how I can be thinking about, say, needing to buy milk and then BOOM I'll be remembering, say, riding a llama in Peru. The memory is SO totally unrelated to the thing that I was doing or thinking about when the memory struck me.

I always try to think backwards to work out the association but no, I definitely wasn't riding the llama to the shop to buy milk, nor did I milk the llama, etc etc. I also know some memories are triggered by smells but obviously those times you're probably able to pick up on it if you're thinking about it.

I feel like it happens allllll the time, many times a day, I asked DH if he had a similar thing and he said what the hell are you talking about no.

I know it's a bit of a weird one, but would just love to know if there are other weirdos out there Wink

P.s. sometimes it will be a memory I've often thought about, other times it can be a memory I haven't remembered since it happened, say 20 years ago. Is this common?!

I have the memory thing exactly as you describe it OP - and only the other day was wondering if other people do. For me the memories which come up are almost always entirely mundane - like crossing the bridge into a town I used to visit occasionally near where we used to live.

I'm aware I have quite different thought processes to other people but can usually trace them - I really can't work out why these memories pop up though.

I'm introverted, creative but also logical and fairly methodical, but sometimes I feel that the methodical-ness is the way I've learned to make my inner thought processes interact successfully with the outside world!

This sounds braggy but I don't know how else to describe it - I'm also very quick, and get ahead of other people in conversation or get frustrated that people need something explained to them more than once. I'm aware that makes me very annoying and consciously try to rein it in.

However I can also be very day dreamy, which infuriates DH sometimes as I accuse him of sneaking up on me and making me jump when in fact he's just going about his business. Then when he asks what I was thinking about, because I was miles away, and it's something like 'shopping in Hereford' which is hardly that engrossing.

I have this! I get random flashes of memories from the past/as a child that I had completely forgotten about, and I'll wonder why the hell I just thought of that. Sometimes the memory is so boring that I wonder why my brain has stored it to begin with haha. To make myself sound even more weird, after it has happened I sometimes wonder if there was a glitch in time or whether my brain was just about to wipe that memory 😂 I have also spoke to DH about it and he just gave me a funny look
