Ring wearing thin

I've noticed that my engagement ring is wearing thin on the underside after just 5 years. The band is yellow gold. Is there anything preventative I could get the jewelers to do to stop it getting worse?

Gold is a relatively soft metal so wearing is common. If you go to a proper jewellers they should be able to reinforce the band and build it back up.

Thanks. That's what I thought. I just wondered if there was a more permanent solution. It was my great grandmothers ring originally and I seem to be rather hard wearing in comparison.

Is it maybe 18ct and your wedding ring 9ct so it’s wearing it away?

My engagement ring was second hand and they warned me that I would have to have an 18ct wedding ring to go with it.

I think they're the same gold. They're certainly the same colour and I checked when we bought. Thanks
