I had no idea they nested in my very unexotic part of the country.

What are you feeling unreasonably pleased about today?

How wonderful!
Is it the black and white kind or the green one with the red hat?
We see the b+w ones rarely, running up and down the trunk of our birch tree and the green ones a bit more often, usually digging ants out of our grass.
I'm always thrilled to bits to see unusual birds, like it's an honour that they've chosen my garden Smile

Lovely! We get the great spotted ones in our garden, but never green ones.

We are quite rural and get a great variety of garden birds. We have a few pheasants at the moment too.

Great spotted, the one with the red hat and tail!

He darts in every time the fat wood pigeons and cheeky robins make way for him.

That’s fab! We walk through the park on the way to school and sometimes see / hear them.
