Vomited blood - waiting to see GP - should I be worried ?

Vomited 3 or 4 times in last few days , I thought due to PMT as I’m often a bit sicky with that . The other night had a tiny bit of bleeding , figured that would be because I’d torn a blood vessel or something .

This morning there was a bit more , bright red - enough to be a bit more alarming but probably no more than a teaspoon if that .. I take naproxen at times but always take it with omeprazole to protect my tummy lining . Have had heartburn for years and years - highly intolerant to lactose so have had tummy problems since I was born (ruptured stomach lining as a baby) .

I’m petrified GP is going to pack me off to hospital for an endoscopy or something ... does it just sound like torn blood vessel like I thought ? 😕

Vomiting blood alone or some streaks in the vomit? Any heartburn type pain?

TheoriginalLEM · 24/04/2019 08:59

Might be just grom the vomiting. Good to get checked but its dark coffee grounds type blood that rings alarm bells.

Just streaks - I have photos but didn’t want to gross anyone out . Yes to heartburn pain for several nights now - feel at times if I lie down I can’t get a decent breath and need to sit back up to belch Blush

You are probably right and it's just a tiny tear after being sick a few times. GP may check you out but definitely not time to worry yet.

More likely you'll get more omeprazole and be told to take it easy and lay off the non-soluble fibre for a few days.
Good luck.

Hi op, I had this during my second pregnancy. I had HG so vomited a lot for 9 months. It was due to tiny tears in my oesophagus.

Good you are getting checked out though and hope you are ok Smile

Streaks are usually not worrying, usually something superficial. It's the coffee ground like vomit that's an issue.

Hope you find the answers OP.

Thank you Flowers fingers crossed its just a bit of trauma then .

I’ve taken an omeorazole and two of the OTC chalk like things , see if that settles it a bit whilst waiting to see GP . Hopefully she can prescribe something a wee bit stronger . Burning like hell at the moment !

I dont think fresh red blood is too much to worry about.

I had this at the end of my pregnancy as I was vomiting so much. It wasn't anything sinister
