What reusable coffee cup do you have, is it good?

As part of my plastic reduction effort, I need one. Has to be definitely leak proof. Do most of them keep the coffee hot? Or do only Thermos types do that?

If you get one that is great at holding heat are they a bit heavy/ bulkier to lug around all day?

Bodum one from TKMaxx here

dancingqueen345 · 23/04/2019 23:14

I've got the Costa one which is great. I commute 1.5hrs and it's still hot by the time I get to work.

It's fairly bulky but I have a ginormous handbag so not really a problem, and the lid is really secure so I don't worry about any drips when it's in my bag.

ExpletiveDelighted · 23/04/2019 23:15

I've got a Contigo, its leakproof, keeps the coffee hot for an hour or so and is not too bulky. It also fits the cupholders in cars, which is very handy.

It's not much help to you because I don't need mine to be leak-proof nor keep it hot for a long time (in fact I need it to lose heat as I drink it black so it starts off far too hot), but my favourite reusable cup is a double-walled ceramic one. I just don't like drinking from plastic, metal or silicone so with a ceramic cup I can take the lid off and it's like drinking from a regular mug. I bought it for €5 from my local supermarket.

Primark do a lovely glass one for £5-£7, depending on the size. It has a cork strip around the cup, and a rubber lid which doesn't leak

ginyogarepeat · 23/04/2019 23:30

I've had several and rate contigo the most. Leakproof, like the sip design and it keeps coffee hotter for longer than others I've had. Their water bottles are great too!

tanpestryfirescreen · 24/04/2019 00:19

I have a chilly bottle- still hot or cold 24 hours later.

JadziaSnax · 24/04/2019 00:23

I've got the metal Costa cup and it keeps my coffee warm for a good 2 hours. Don't get the plastic ones though, they leak.

NuffSaidSam · 24/04/2019 03:10

I have the rCup.

I got it because it was the Which recommended no.1 and I like it. It's light and not bulky, doesn't leak, easy to clean, sip all the way round, keeps warm for an hour or so, made from 40% recycled plastic.

If you want one that stays hot longer they recommend the Tefal one. I looked at that one too, but it is much heavier and bulkier than the rCup.

MrsMozartMkII · 24/04/2019 03:18

Contigo! Bloody brilliant. Keeps hot for hours. Survives being flung into the back of the car, shoved in rucksack side pockets, etc.

I'm on my third after losing the first and second but finding one of then again, so now happily have two, which between keeps me going for hours.

Cadsuane · 24/04/2019 07:38

Again Contigo. I make my coffee at 6.30am, and its still drinkable when I get to interval at 10.30am.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 24/04/2019 07:41

I’ve got a Stojo, mainly because it’s collapsible so can just live in my bag. No leaks so far.

iN33danap · 24/04/2019 07:42

I have a bamboo one, £4 from walker and ling, and it's great for a desk cup. If your commuting with it get a cup with a stopper or firm lid.

beela · 24/04/2019 07:43

Contigo.

I ruined mine by putting it in the dishwasher, so now the paint is coming off the outside. It does say not to, so it is totally my fault!

Jessikka · 24/04/2019 07:45

I have a purple flask from Hydrate M8 and it keeps my coffee/tea for HOURS. In fact more than once I've burnt my tongue lol

andadietcoke · 24/04/2019 07:46

Contigo! Brilliant and often on offer at Tesco. They don't fit my cup holder in the car but it doesn't matter because it's leakproof and so just sits on the seat or in a handbag.

I also have a Nespresso one that's also never leaked but I'm not as confident in its abilities as the Contigo!

cropcirclesinthefields · 24/04/2019 07:55

I have a £3.99 450ml metal thermal mug from aldi and its great, keeps my tea hot for 5-6 hours.

JollyAndBright · 24/04/2019 07:56

I have a few but my favourite is the nespresso ‘touch’ travel mug,
it’s metal and double walled, it’s completely leak proof, keeps coffee hot for hours and has a really nice sipping part. (It also looks really nice)

FinallyHere · 24/04/2019 08:30

I got a contiguous after reading about it on MN years ago. It's brilliant.

Rockbird · 24/04/2019 08:46

Contigo west loop or whatever it's called. I have two and they get slung around all over the place. They're bombproof.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 24/04/2019 10:00

I've a Contigo, as recommended by MN. It's fantastic - leakproof, stays warm for hours and the autoseal function means you just have to press and release a button when you drink

jackparlabane · 24/04/2019 10:12

The ones with a flat plastic lid and a bit that rotates round, are not leak proof.

Mine has acquired a smell of mould which goes away if put in the dishwasher but keeps coming back if not used for a day or two - any ideas? Or do I need to replace the thing (only had it 15 months)?

HexagonalBattenburg · 24/04/2019 10:14

Tesco were selling Contigo ones off at below half price the other week on one of their random reduction aisle ends.

I had an old style Costa one which I loved (and they've discontinued), never found another as good - Contigo one comes the closest.

Thatmustbemyname · 24/04/2019 10:19

How easy is the contigo to clean?

MrsMozartMkII · 24/04/2019 10:27

Thatustbemyname easy to clean. I just rinse mine under hot water for a moment, though I don't have milk in drinks so through the dishwasher might be an idea.
