Bt home hub

Can anyone please explain the difference between a hub 4 and a hub 5?

Years ago I got a hub 4, not so long ago, maybe a year or two, probably 2 i was having problems. My mum suggested maybe the hub was broken and said she had an old one I could have. It's worked great until this weekend. Called bt and they asked me about it "you've got a hub 4?" I replied yes as I thought i had. Anyway turns out I've had a hub 5. The guy was friendly but didn't seem happy about me having the hub 5. He said hes sending out a replacement hub 4 and to bin the 5.

He also mentioned my contract expires at the end of next month (may) and once I've got the new hub up and running for a bit give them a call and they'll sort me a new deal

I'm wondering if they want to sell me the hub 5? I'm reluctant to bin this one if they're just wanting to up sell with my new contract? But in honesty I could be barking up the wrong tree entirely and maybe a 5 isn't better then a 4 just different? The hub 5 has been working fine, in fact while it wasn't working over the weekend it is again now

I'm scared getting the new hub 4 will mean slower internet

As you are not on fibre BB (or your H4 would have been replaced) i'd not worry about it, the only difference is a supposed better wifi coverage.

FWIW BT will send you a Hub4 and its up to you whether you return it or not, which why your mum still had a H5.

Use any new contract to get cheaper call package/BB and if they don't offer this, than tell them talktalk are doing a better deal !!!

Thank you. No fibre here, out in the sticks and the broadband isn't the best.

I've got lots to say when I review my contract 😉
