Wonder if I'll get a ticket for running a red light.

Anyone else had this?

I was front of the line at a red light junction and an ambulance came up behind with flashing lights. Stopped right behind me with lights still on so as there were no cars using the junction, I eased slowly forward just enough to let him get through. I didn't go far enough to be in the path of other cars even if there were any but obviously this still might trigger an automatic ticket.

I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to run the red light for any reason at all but as the ambulance driver kept his flashing lights on I thought I'd better get out of the way. Gah.

By law you are only supposed to cross a red if told to by the Police. The ambulances are supposed to make their way around you on the oposite side of the road if they must.

However, not all traffic lights have cameras so you may have got away with it.

Sorry that was incorrect you can’t cross the ref light even if the police tell you. Official guidelines say you should move to allow the vehicle to pass without crossing the line.

How one does that when at the junction and you have a vehicle up your bum is beyond me.

I’ve done this and not got a ticket.

Ask the Police stance

Thanks for that link Cookie. I've also found a website that lists all red light cameras in my county and the junction that I was at is not listed so hopefully I won't get a ticket. If I do I'll try to mitigate it. I should probably have just sat there and held the ambulance up.
