I've swallowed two tablespoons of syrup of figs, is it going to be bad?

I've been constipated and sluggish for a while (TMI sorry) and decided to take something to help things along.I bought a bottle of 'syrup of figs' today in Boots and I've just taken two big tablespoons of it. After taking it I'm now in a bit of a panic, as I've checked the bottle and the writing on the bottle is very small (tiny actually) and I'm worried the correct dose might be two teaspoons, not tablespoons, it's so small I can't see it.

Does anyone know the correct dose? I've never taken it before. It seems like a natural thing, being figs, and I was assuming it might just ease things up a bit for me but now I'm worrying the effects could be more explosive.

www.boots.com/califig-syrup-of-figs-100ml

Seems to say 1-2 tablespoons here.

I googled for you. If you bought califig, you are fine as Nacreous says. If you bought Boots own brand, you are only supposed to take 2 teaspoonfuls.

Cailleach · 23/04/2019 19:00

I've just googled it and it is indeed tablespoons, so you're clear.

(Or at least you will be, soon....)

Not if you bought this You're not.

The correct dosage for an adult is 10ml (two 5ml teaspoons). A proper tablespoon is about 15ml, so if you’ve used an actual tablespoon measure, you have tripled the stated dose of a stimulant laxative. You may well find that effects are strong.

EntirelyAnonymised · 23/04/2019 19:04

Yes, that is the dosage for the boots own brand product

Frangipane · 23/04/2019 19:04

Or rather, you may be even clearer even faster than you anticipated. It does say not to exceed the stated dose (2 teaspoonfuls) Shock

CherryPlum · 23/04/2019 19:07

It was Califig. Maybe I will be ok

Ah crikey, should have googled that more carefully. Hopefully it was the branded one...

Nacreous · 23/04/2019 19:07

X-post sorry!

Catchingbentcoppers · 23/04/2019 19:09

May the force be with you ...

And it probably will be after having that lot. (Sorry)

My ds is 5 and suffers with chronic constipation, he can do a full bottle of syrup of figs before any sign of a bowel movement. I’ve even upp’d his dose and still not had a result so I wouldn’t worry about it!

CherryPlum · 23/04/2019 21:24

Well it seems as though I should be ok, I guess I'll see what the morning (or the night?!) brings. My tummy is making a lot of rumbling noises.

I feel like I'm waiting for an event 😮

This takes me back to my childhood. I was a very fussy eater and probably didn't eat enough to necessitate a bowel movement every day. But my mother was concerned, and I remember one occasion when she was chasing me around the house with a teaspoon of syrup of figs determined to get it down me.
