Carpet £20 per sq metre ?

I have no idea about carpets but we need the entire upstairs doing and it needs doing ASAP!
Chosen a poly-something carpet (we have indoor cats and DP trawls football boots through the house) which is apparently easy to clean and safe to bleach if it ever came to that!
It’s a short pile Cormar carpet at £20 per square metre . Does this sound like okay value and will the quality be alright ? I could spend forever looking at beige carpets!! We’ll also have the cloud 9 underlay at £8 per square metre.
Dp’s mum is horrified as it isn’t wool.
Does this pricing sound ok and will it be decent quality ?? Sorry I know nobody has a crystal ball !

Sounds expensive. The best carpet is 80% wool and 20% man made fibre (30 oz pile) They can start from £24 a sq metre.
We managed to get one for £14 a sq metre.

Sounds expensive to me.
Generally, I wouldn't pay that much for upstairs carpet - you are likely to be padding out of bed, to the bathroom, back into the bedroom, then downstairs.
The living room / dining room / hallway even gets a lot more traffic' and more likely to be trodden on by outdoor shoes. Also more likely to be seen by visitors.

Good quality underlay really helps a carpet feel comfy but I wouldn't pay anywhere near that for the carpet.

That's really expensive for underlay. You can get wool underlay for under £3 per square metre. It's worth looking at this website for ideas:

This.

Synthetic carpets are always a false economy.

I’d like an 80/20 wool carpet but it’s no good for the stains we get around the house ! Cat sick mostly !
So we have to go with man made :-/
Ugh. I’m not sure what to do!

Buy a Vax. (A basic old-school one, not a flashy upright one- they're not as good). I have three dogs and they do various disgusting things to the carpets but the vax works miracles on my 80/20 carpets.

CitadelsofScience · 24/04/2019 11:59

We paid about that for the whole house. I wanted a carpet that was bleach cleanable with my messy lot. It's been down nearly 18minths and still looks as good as new and the stains come out like a dream.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/04/2019 12:01

I wouldn't buy wool again, the carpet that we have which sounds similar to your is one you can bleach ,scrub etc and it's still looking fantastic 12 years on.

I have a bleach cleanable carpet short pile been down 6 years and was half that price. Tbh I wouldn’t spend that much upstairs.
