Echinacea - how do you take it?

I'm in need of some immunity boosting after being ill a lot recently. A few people have recommended echinacea but I have heard conflicting advice about how to take it. Some say to take it at the first sign of a cold, others that you take it continuously for 3 months to let your body get used to it, then stop and just use as needed. And others take it week on week off. Any advice? Thanks

I take the drops (diluted in a small amount of water) at the first signs of a cold.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, so make of that what you will!

I take Echinacea at the first sign of a cold.
I take vitamin C and zinc all winter to boost my immune system.
