Advice about Berlin, PB please?

I'm spending a (working) week in Berlin during May. I've booked an Air BnB and I just wanted to see if anyone that knows the city well could give me a bit of insider knowledge.

The photos of the interior look great, but I've now been sent more details and the building itself looks a bit rundown, tbh, as does the surrounding area? It's on the edges of Prenzlauer Berg - the north eastern boundary, nr a cultural centre called BrotfabrikBerlin.

I'm sure it's fine, I'm just going to have a few late nights so I want to check if it's a safe area to get public transport (from Mitte) and walk home or if it's more advisable to stick to taxis?

Any insider intelligence gratefully received. TIA.

I've lived in Berlin for 14 years now.

There are a couple of areas that I would be a bit hesitant about wandering about in at night, but that is not one of them.

In general, Prenzlauer Berg does tend to look run down, with lots of graffiti (a trait shared with many other areas of Berlin!). However, it is actually a fairly trendy area popular with young families, and no more unsafe than most areas of Berlin. I've known two people living in the area you're talking about, both with families and young children.

I would consider public transport there safe. Prenzlauer Allee S-Bahn station, which is close by, is used by a huge number of people. The trams which run from there are also used by many, many people.

Ah - thank you! That's so helpful. Funnily enough, it was the graffiti on the building that made me go, 'hmm', so that's super reassuring.

The owners said it wasn't a long trip to Alexanderplatz which is where I will need to be for quite a lot of my day, so I'm looking forward to it now :)

Thanks again.

Stayed in Prenzlauer Berg last May and had a great time, lots of lovely bars and restaurants and our apartment had a great view of the city, just a couple of tram stops to Alexanderplatz - have a great time, you have nothing to worry about.

Don't be put off by the graffiti and the look of being a bit run down. Most areas we went to were exactly that!! It just kind of is what it's like, and gives it character. We liked it. Felt very safe every where we walked and also there are tonnes of trams, buses and taxis around, in most districts.
