Kings Cross - Piccadilly line to mainline platforms

Just wondering approximately how long it takes to get from the Piccadilly line to the mainline platforms at Kings Cross - I don't know which platform no yet... Going to Hull on Hull Trains if anyone knows!

Kings Cross can be very busy. There is one level up on the escalator to the tube ticket hall then up the steps into the station which is signposted. You would then need to check which platform your train is going from-the board is right above the gates to the platform.
I would say 5 minutes from tube to train directly but I could be cautious and say 10 if it's busy.

The platform will be any from 0 to 8 and very easy to find. There are plenty station staff around.

5-10 minutes. I’d leave a couple of minutes longer if you have to collect tickets/have luggage.

GabrielleNelson · 22/04/2019 19:46

I'd allow at least ten minutes. Platforms are often closed a minute or so before the train leaves so as to avoid people trying to get on at the last second and the train missing its signal.

Lovely, thanks - we will have plenty of time then!

Definitely allow a good ten minutes.

At least 10 mins, if it's busy even longer especially if you aren't familiar. I do st Pancras and always allow 20 mins to get to the platform

Don't know about Picadilly line to mainline King's Cross but getting out of the Victoria line to mainline King's Cross is at least 5 minutes but only if you're galloping , don't have luggage and it's not busy. Comfortably it's probably at least 10 minutes.

As others have said mainline King's Cross isn't a complicated station. Platforms are 0-8 , laid out logically (unlike say Waverley which has platforms round the corner /up and over a bridge/ hidden behind others)

Also agree about giving yourself plenty of time. Trains start at King's Cross rather than it being a through station so you can board trains well before departure time- might as well get in and get your luggage in before it fills up.

Platforms are 0-8 , laid out logically

Also 9, 10, 11, which are round the corner...

Trills · 22/04/2019 20:00

But your train will be from 0-8

It'll be a weekday mid morning, so hopefully not too busy. I travel on the tube quite a lot, just not so much on mainline and never from Kings Cross. Waterloo mainly. So no problems navigating, just wasn't sure of timings, but you've all been very helpful. Thanks again!
