What’s your top camping item?

Just back from a cracking 3 nights’ camping, and pondering on the next trip.

What’s your top recommendation for one item that will make camping easier/better? We are non-electric campers, I’m considering a car plug in coolbox....

Slug pellets

Alabasterangel6 · 22/04/2019 22:39

Smidge!

Coleman extreme coldbox for us and freeze anything freezable at home first. Milk, cheese, the lot. Makes the coolbox last 3-4 days when opened and closed swiftly as it adds to the cold-load rather than just using freezer packs.

And put your pyjamas on before dark then put a layer of trousers/fleece over the top. Then when it’s time for bed you can just peel the over layer off and you don’t get all cold getting undressed!

Head torch and flip-flops (where you can find them) for midnight toilet trips. Collapsible plastic crate for washing up. Baby wipes for basically everything. Bird crap, shit shoes, armpits, hands, surfaces etc.

Camp bed and I also have a beast pod sleeping bag! Hate not being able to wriggle so this is perfect!
Where can you get the foam squares please?

DontMakeMeShushYou · 22/04/2019 23:56

My camp bed
Solar power system to run lights and charge phones
Bobble hat and puffa jacket all year round
Wine

RomaineCalm · 23/04/2019 00:03

Wash bag with a hanging hook so that it can go over the shower door if needed.

Icey-tek cool box, 'Beast' sleeping pod, SIM.

Turkish Bath Cotton Towels! They are soo much better than any micro fibre towels. Dry quickly, fold up small, light weight and come in bath sheet size!

Equimum · 23/04/2019 02:19

Multimat! We bought two doubles last year, and both us and the kids slept so much better.

Came to say Hotel but see I’ve been beaten to it. Nothing would entice me to go camping . I’d rather stay at home .

Hotel for me too. Just the thought of weeing in a bag, I can imagine it going everywhere!

Offallycheap · 23/04/2019 09:37

Ahh but these are not just ordinary wee bags! These are special bags! They have a bit that fits over your foot.

Offallycheap · 23/04/2019 09:37

Foof! Not foot!

user1457017537 · 23/04/2019 10:40

Pmsl at the thought of putting it over my foot lol

Gin in a Tin: the little ready mix G&T and other tins from the supermarket.

Glow sticks. Buy from the pound shop. Fun for the kids, handy to put round pegs at night if you haven’t got luminous guys / pegs,

winewolfhowls · 23/04/2019 22:10

What are these wee bags called?

bliminy · 23/04/2019 22:21

Bear spray.

I've gone from thermarest to camp bed to blowup mattress over the last five years- the mattress is no bother with the car, and I've a blow up tent anyway. The camp bed was the worst of the three, though.

Also a decent headtorch, kit in really useful box as others have said as the box is great too. Microfibre towels, aeropress if you like your coffee. Definitely yes yes to having your kit all boxed up separate and ready to go, we also have a standard food shopping list as well (we camp a LOT). Oh and a fleecy hat to wear on chilly nights, if you're cold you won't sleep.

PanBasher · 23/04/2019 22:33

My fishing bed which can also be used as a chair which saves space. It has a built in pillow and adjustable legs, so comfy.
Plastic set of 3 drawers, which everything is kept in, such as pans, plates, cutlery, batteries, torches etc, because not only is everything kept neat in one place, but it saves packing / unpacking stuff for transporting and the top can be used as a small table to put a light on or to make brews on.
Bucket. Used for a loo if other campers are up and about when you wake up and you can't nip round the back of the tent and you know you won't make it to the bog block.

Thermos jug for the morning coffee.
