what is it called when some one asks you something and they echo the answer back to you? Appart from irritating?

them "how many have you got?"
you "seven"
them "seven"

I've known a few people who do it, why do they?

Echolalia?

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 22/04/2019 18:39

Either Echolalia (psychiatric condition) or hearing impairment (physical condition). Either way, be considerate.

I have to do this at work (on the radio) they call it constructive listening. We have to repeat the salient information to ensure we've understood the message.

As it's been so drilled in now I find myself doing it outside of work as well without realising it...

They went to Sandhurst.

I went out with a chap who'd been there. Driving with him, the in car conversation used to go....
Me: Turn right at the T junction.
Him: Turn right at the T junction confirm?
Me: Turn right at the T junction affirmative.

He was a lovely chap in lots of ways! Smile
