Can one of you clever gardeners please tell me what this is? It's everywhere in my garden and seems to be taking over.

It looks like a thing i have - nice buttercup flowers but has to be kept in check by pulling up new seedlings and runners or it will take over the world.

Yes! I think you're right Vole - it's everywhere though so I'm ruthlessly digging it all up. I've left one of them in (which I think must have been the original one)

I had a quick google and I think it is, indeed a buttercup - to be exact, creeping buttercup. It's vigorous and can easily take over, but very charming. I'd do the same as you - keep one or two but make sure it's kept in bounds.

Pull it all up. It will take over everything. It spreads by runners, not seed, like strawberries and is a pain.

Yes, it is ranunculus, it spreads by seed as well as runners if you let it. If it gets in your lawn a vegetable knife will be your friend.

Thank you all - it's gone! Quite satisfying digging it all up, was all over the lawn too.
