Anyone trying to lose weight, but hit a plateau?

I've been trying to lose weight for 7 weeks.

I've lost 17 pounds by calorie control and balancing between fat, carbs and protein. Reduced saturated fats and sugar. I've got move active too.

However, for the last 2-3 weeks, I've been locked in a battle of wills with the scales. It gets to a certain point, wont move beyond that, then I gain weight, lose it, but no further than that point.

Where am I going wrong? I just want to lose than god awful belly fat that curses me.

17lbs in 7 weeks is an enourmous amount.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 22/04/2019 08:41

Yeah, but that's just the beginning.

I think your body has an ideal weight. As you approach that it is harder to loose the weight as your body wants that fat on it for survival.
Do you exercise?

Goatrider · 22/04/2019 08:44

A lighter body burns fewer calories. Are you reducing your calories as you lose?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 22/04/2019 08:47

Yep, doing cardio and resistance training. Also reducing the calories as I go along.

I have a 150g max on my carbs.

I've not hit a plateau, more of an Easter egg or two. Blush

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 22/04/2019 08:50

I have easter eggs in the fridge and I'm so annoyed I might just give in to their taunting of me.

17 lbs in 7 weeks is MASSIVE! There is no way you would continue to lose weight at that rate op. Surely it would slow to around 1lb per week before 7 weeks?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 22/04/2019 08:59

I had a big loss in the first week which is normal for me. I knew by week two it would slow. Week 2 and 3 were 2 pound loss each week. 4 and 5 had gone to 1 pound loss each week. Now it wont go beyond that point.

You’ve done really well!
Sometimes I find the scales don’t move for a few weeks then a few drop all at once, especially when exercising.

A few things to consider: are you drinking enough water and eating adequate fibre? Not too much salt?

If you’re calorie counting, are you logging everything like milk for tea and so on? And weighing your food? I never used to but started after a slice of bread was 20g more than the average stated on the packet, as a few things like that each day add up unless you have a very generous calorie deficit.

Can you drop your carbs lower? I usually find that helps get through a plateau and with lower carbs I end up filling up on more veg.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 22/04/2019 09:26

I drink 2 litres of water a day. I tried with fibre but it really upset my stomach.

I drink very little milk and always skimmed milk. I try to keep track of salt.

I have a food diary to monitor what i eat and nutrients it brings. I track my sleep, steps, all excercise.

Maybe i need to drop the carbs more.

Someone at work also suggested getting my thyroid checked.
