No, they never did. Since when has that ever been tradition?

BlackCatSleeping · 22/04/2019 06:11

I actually saw on Facebook a thing for a Peep on a Perch which is supposed to be an Easter version of Elf on a Shelf. I think people just take these things too far. I've also seen Halloween advent calendars and Halloween versions of Christmas trees.

Brown76 · 22/04/2019 06:22

No and no. We did do an Easter egg hunt which was really fun but no bunny. I did hear a mum in Sainsbury’s when I was buying the eggs saying to her young child “the Easter bunny’s coming tonight...” so I think it is a thing.

No! When did every celebration get so big and commercialised!? When I was a kid Christmas was the big deal, Easter you got an egg from your parents and grandma, Halloween was a non-thing, you just dressed up for school like once when it was 'Victorian day'.
Now everything is a massive expensive big deal requiring costumes, overspending, special events at school and social media uploads. I find it all utterly ridiculous and OTT . And I'm not even old-early thirties!

TSSDNCOP · 22/04/2019 06:25

In fairness I think adopting the pumpkin as the carved item is a good idea. Turnips are bastards to carve.

I don’t think we can blame the bloody Easter Bunny on the poor Americans can we? As far as I can see he’s the mid year stop gap for the enthusiastic totally over the toppers with their fucking elf and fucking Christmas Eve boxes people that embrace and smother it to death Christmas.

highstresslevels · 22/04/2019 06:37

I did an easter egg hunt for the children yesterday- I said to my sister in front of my nephew I would hide the eggs for 10am- she said 'you mean the Easter bunny will', I laughed thinking she was joking. She then took me to one side and was really quite cross that I would try ruin nephews Easter by letting on the Easter bunny doesn't exist Hmm Grin

FrolickingFroglets · 22/04/2019 07:06

yoursworried my IL's certainly seem to consider Easter more important than Christmas.

The Easter Bunny was first documented as a tradition in the 1600's.

CherryPlum · 22/04/2019 07:51

No! I've always enjoyed the simplicity of Easter. It's lovely having a bit of time off work, spending time together, a roast dinner on Easter Sunday, and chocolate eggs for everyone.

Anything more adds pressure to what has always been a relaxing weekend.

Shopperami · 22/04/2019 07:52

Mostly no then Grin

Did you do any egg hunts?

OP posts:
NorthernRunner · 22/04/2019 07:56

Christ no.

My daughter isn’t really aware of Easter bunny and she is 4.
We didn’t do an Easter egg hunt either.
I also asked family members not to buy her chocolate.
She had one egg from me and her dad, and a couple of mini eggs from an elderly neighbour.

We are not religious, and I already do too much for Xmas. I will not start making Easter another expense just to keep up with the Jones’.

I had tonnes of people I know snapping pictures of their kids 10+ eggs, sacks full of presents, and dressing their children up as bunnies... I honestly couldn’t understand why that’s worth bragging about?!

ScreamingValenta · 22/04/2019 07:59

Surely the more things you have like this - Easter Bunny visits, leaving carrots out, letters from tooth fairy, elves on shelves etc. - the less special they become. The once-a-year visit from Father Christmas used to be magical and special because only happened once a year. If your house is visited by mythical beings several times a year, doesn't the novelty start to wear off?

daisypond · 22/04/2019 07:59

No and no. Never heard of that. Never heard of the Easter bunny in the uk as well. When dc were little I did I treasure hunt with clues- sometimes.

ukgift2016 · 22/04/2019 08:00

We did an Easter hunt on Friday but nope my daughter does not believe in the Easter bunny. I did have someone ask me if she does. I just find it strange, it is definitely an American thing.

daisypond · 22/04/2019 08:02

It’s a normal working week and weekend for me, as it will be for lots of people , so I worked right through Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Have today off though.

MockerstheFeManist · 22/04/2019 08:05

The Easter Bunny is an infantilised abomination of the Spring Hare of Ēostre, standing on his hind legs and showing off his breeding condition.

Easter cards, Easter pantomimes, how long before we get an Easter tree?

You can see where all this is coming from, and why.

Heatherjayne1972 · 22/04/2019 08:08

I’ve seen Easter crackers and an Easter tree in the shops !
It’s too far to leave carrots out
And besides my kids worked out a long time ago that rabbits don’t lay eggs chocolate or otherwise

It’s getting to commercial. I just leave chocolate eggs out on their chair at the table Eggs which they chose ages ago

Catchingbentcoppers · 22/04/2019 08:09

how long before we get an Easter tree?

Tah-dah!!!

My friend has this in her house, along with many other Easter decorations. I told her she's off her trolley. Grin

MockerstheFeManist · 22/04/2019 08:12

....OK, Easter Tree. Easter Crackers Indeed.

And did you know that snow at Easter in UK is three times more likely than snow at Christmas?

NorthernRunner · 22/04/2019 08:14

Oh this makes me feel ill.

Catchingbentcoppers · 22/04/2019 08:15

There's certainly been a change in the village Easter Egg hunt over the last few years. It's always been organised by the local playgroup and used to be really good fun with lots of clues and puzzles in various bits of our village., now they chuck a load of eggs up at the playing field and it takes the kids about 2 minutes to find them (whilst trying to avoid the cricket training). Then a group of mums sat on rugs drinking Prosecco (11 am on Sat) while their DCs stuffed their faces with chocolate, then left a shit load of eggs wrappers and other crap when they left. It did not go down well.

FrolickingFroglets · 22/04/2019 08:15

Traditional German Easter decorations.

Do your kids get a letter from the Easter bunny and do they leave a carrot out?
Catchingbentcoppers · 22/04/2019 08:17

This thread is actually a slight comfort to me. I was beginning to think that I was just a grumpy old cow but it appears not ... Grin

septemberismyfavouritemonth · 22/04/2019 08:22

Ugh no, there is no Easter bunny! Friends and relatives give my lo eggs, not a bunny!!!

Skyejuly · 22/04/2019 08:24

No and no.

cliffdiver · 22/04/2019 08:25

We never intended to 'do' the Easter Bunny. Easter eggs were from my parents when I was little and the EB was never a thing.

But when DD1 was 2 she said in passing about the EB hiding eggs for her at Easter, so I got bloody roped into it.

She's now 7 and DD2 is 5 and they very much believe that a bunny hides their eggs each each year and were discussing over the weekend whether it was a small or human sized bunny Hmm

We don't leave a carrot or a note though. Although last year I wrote rhyming clues for each egg Blush
