If you have long nails...

How do you do anything?

Okay, a boring/dumb question, but relevant to me, as I'm trying to grow my nails even a tiny bit longer for the first time in ages. I am so used to doing things with the tips of my fingers that I'm really struggling now that my nails are beginning to grow past the tips.

How do you type on a keyboard or on your phone? Do you use the tips of your nails, or the flat of the top of your fingers? This is the main thing I'm struggling with right now, although I'm also just struggling with "how do you anything", including "not scratch yourself accidentally all the time?!"

Keep them fairly short until you're used to them being a bit longer. Then a bit longer.

As mine grow I find I do things differently but it's hard to explain.

I need to keep mine shorter actually, I caught someone with one the other day Blush

I use my fingertips. You'll break your nails if you type with them... It's probably one of those things that you just get used to Smile I feel very odd if I've got a short nail now!

I interchange between growing long nails then nibbling (terrible habit)

Use the pads of your fingers for everything. As soon as you start using the tips of your nails for typing (or anything other than peeling sticky labels) they will break!

As for scratching yourself, you just need to be a bit more careful!

Just use the pads of my fingers and mine are a squoval shape so as to minimise them getting caught on anything.

Daily filing helps.

Pads of your fingers, don't type using your nails or you'll break them. I have to use a knuckle to press the buttons on an atm.

Ah, thanks all. So the pads of the fingers are the answer. I guess it'll just take time to get used to using my fingers in a different position. I'm not going full on long nails right away, as for one thing my nails are too soft right now, so I'll try to get used to it gradually.

Angle you fingers lower, more 45° than 90° to the screen/buttons

I saw someone the other day whose nails tapered a long point that extended at least half an inch past the end of her fingers. That must really hinder everyday life.
