Go on my son

What does this mean?! I was on a date in a pub, in a quiet corner near closing time. We had a little kiss and just then a few people left and turned around to see (we were definitely hidden away!) - a few of the guys started cheering and went “go on, my son” - standard drunk behaviour I’m sure, but is it a nice thing or a bit awkward?! Bit embarrassed today and didn’t know how to react!

It's the sort of phrase you'd hear someone shouting when a footballer is about to score.

It's crude, but they were probably suggesting your DP was about to score too...

bigchris · 21/04/2019 16:37

It's drunk banter meaning give her one

Choose better pubs next time Grin

scissorlover · 21/04/2019 16:38

Just a bit of a laddy congratulations for getting a kiss

Herland · 21/04/2019 16:41

Not particularly pleasant. But I find PDAs a bit cringy and I'd probably have told you to get a room.

llangennith · 21/04/2019 16:42

It's usually followed by, "Get in there." Crass comment.

FiremanKing · 21/04/2019 16:45

You were lucky no one called out

“Get a room!”

Hmm
FiremanKing · 21/04/2019 16:46

That was meant to be Grin

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 21/04/2019 16:46

In this context yeah it means "wooohoo get in there you've pulled give her one"

Its laddish and drunk

Its neither a complement or an insult or tbh anything you need to react too

MsLayla · 21/04/2019 17:09

Just a lad's way of saying 'well done, mate'.

My DH says stuff like this when watching football matches etc.

PsychadelicPsall · 21/04/2019 18:04

Cool thanks, yeah I don’t like PDAs either but I think when the pub is empty and you are completely hidden away, it doesn’t really count? But thanks for clearing it up
