Where are the bra interventionists?

I've been looking and looking:

I am 5ft 2
I weight 10 stone

I am trying to lose some weight

I have quite a broad back and shoulders..I can even post a picture if this helps

I wear 10 on the bottom - 12 on top

I am currently wearing an overstretched, wrecked CK bralette - it's the only thing that doesn't give me back fat

Boobs aren't particularly big

Yesterday, out of desperation - I bought a 38C bra. I still have back fat

I am miserable. None of my clothes sit right, look right 😭

What's going on? How can I be at size 12 and need, what, a 40 back?! 😭

What are your measurements OP? And what's the style of bra?

TrashPanda · 21/04/2019 11:47

You are very unlikely to be a 38 or 40. Have a measure using the instructions at booborbust.com/

Fluggers · 21/04/2019 11:52

Here I am

I have quite big arms

I measured using a tape, duly went out and bought a 34C bra..

Couldn't even get the thing around me

I am baffled

I'm considering getting on a plane and visiting Rigby and Peller

That's how bad this is

I think some back fat is inevitable, you even see it on stick think hollywood stars. a bra needs to no be lose (but also not uncomfortably tight) to give support. The support should come from the back band, not the shoulder straps, otherwise you're asking for back ache.

I also think you can't buy bras by mail order, there's no substitute for getting every bra in the shop in your size and trying them all on. and give bloody M&S a body swerve. get yourself to a decent department store or specialist shop.

you need to measure under your boobs to get your back measurement. I'm a size 14 and wear a 34 FF, so would be pretty surprised if you are a 40 back!

I'm trying to lose weight at the moment too, so only have 2 bras as (hopefully) my size will go down a bit and I don't want to spend money on loads of bras. you can actually get by with just one nude bra if you're organised about washing!

Size XL bralette from Asda 😭

See

I can get by with a wee bit of back fat..

Like the normal amount you see on everyone, every single day..

But fuck me, this is shocking

I am also 5 ft 2. I am considerably heavier than 10 stone and wear 16 on top and 14 on the bottom. Got fitted at Bravissimo on Friday and I'm 34GG. No way can you be 38 or 40 band, even with a broad back, if you can get into a size 12 top.

DropZoneOne · 21/04/2019 12:58

34 band sounds right, but you'd be bigger than a C cupq. If f the cup is too small, then you can't scoop it all in.

Do the boob or bust and tell us what the measurements say. A 34C is not the same boob size as a 40C - the cup size changes with the band size. So when trying on a bra, just do the band up first and check the size of that. If it feels ok - not too loose, not too tight - then pull the cups up. If it's too tight, then you need a bigger cup not a bigger band. I'm going to guess at DD or E.

TrashPanda · 21/04/2019 14:33

From that picture both 30C and 38C won't be right. 34 band sounds about right but the cup will be bigger.

I have tiny boobs and I'm a 28D or 30C depending on brand. Yours look much bigger from the photo.

A Bra That Fits will tell you your cup and band size. If you want to fine tune it (look here for help) figure out how wide your roots are, how close-set your boobs are and whether you're full on top or bottom. Then find the brand and style that works best for you. I like Curvy Kate plunge bras, but not the Lifestyle ones.

Once you've found your perfect bra check Belle Lingerie and eBay for last year's styles at discount prices.

I feel your pain OP, I do these bra interventions, get my size, try on a hundred different bras and still cannot get one that doesn't squash my boobs out under my armpits or over the band, or digs in my rib cage. Ironically, the only ones I can wear are the bralets you're having trouble with, or sometimes I'll wear a padded sports crop top as, despite being a 32D/DD, those bralets make me as flat as a pancake.

Thatlibrarymiss that's an interesting article, thanks. I need to reread later to make proper sense of it.

labazsisgoingmad · 21/04/2019 19:23

i bought some minimiser bras ive ended up with four boobs which looks horible when i am dressed no where round here does bra fitting i thought i had measured right bought 40E but it looks terrible cant afford to keep buying bras i have to buy on line as no where to sell or do fitting round here i do have big boobs i just want my boobs to be in the position they should be and not have four of them either

NoBaggyPants · 21/04/2019 19:32

@Fluggers That bralette is far too big in the back for you, it's riding up in the back. As suggested you need to tell us your measurements and start from there.

@labazsisgoingmad What are your measurements?

NoBaggyPants · 21/04/2019 19:36

And is your back fat from your boobs or actually on your back? If it is on your back then it's still going to be there even with the best fitting bra. A back smoothing bra may help, or a vest top over your bra can smooth things over.

labazsisgoingmad · 21/04/2019 19:37

im 5 ft 4 weigh 14.5 stone am a 16--18 in size

NoBaggyPants · 21/04/2019 19:38

No, the measurements around your breasts, as explained above.

GFgertie · 21/04/2019 19:46

Did you say you weren’t in the UK? I just ask because, with your height and weight, size 10 bottom and 12 top doesn’t sound right.

Many apologies if I’ve got the wrong end of the stick.
