Facebook name question

Looking for advice please ... I have an ancient FB account, set up years ago using an obviously fake name. Was using it solely for gaming. Recently started using it on a closed group but now have a message from FB asking me to update it to my everyday name. I still don’t want to use my actual name. Does anyone know whether they’re likely to ask for ID meaning I would need to use my name but with a completly locked down profile - or could I use a shortened version of my Christian name? Or can I chance a Susan Smith type name and hope they don’t aks for ID? Thanks!

I know loads of people who use a different name from their own (teachers, etc who don't want to be sought out by their pupils)

They do ask for ID to confirm a name but they aren't a) UK based and b) that bothered so a fake utility bill and student ID card knocked up on a photo app on your phone will be fine not that I did this

I have never been asked to prove my identity on Facebook is that a real thing? Not spam?

Caton, is it really that straightforward? I wouldn’t know where to start with making a fake id! I wonder whether they will definitely ask? Otherwise, thinking aloud, I delete that FB profile and start afresh. Would that be better?

Molly, I think someone on the new closed group (all above board) must have reported my false name. At the moment I’m locked out and a bit hacked off ... with no-one else to blame but me. Yes, definitely not spam.

Sorted with an abbreviated version of my name and they haven’t asked for id. Phew and thanks for suggestions!
