Looking for recommendations for a coffee shop in York and maybe it's close to a walk or something we could do afterwards. Can anyone recommend anything please?

Almost every other shop is a coffee shop ;-) if you want a walk afterwards, head to one on Lendal bridge - there's about 3 or 4 opposite the library. Then you can go to the museum gardens and along the river afterwards.

Thank you for the reply, I have only ever been to York once ages ago. Is the library near the centre I presume?

How are you getting to York? Yes, Lendal bridge is close to the city centre.

Walk round the walls.

Ant there’s a nice little coffee shop actually in one of the bars, so you don’t even need to divert from the wall.

The library is on the centre. The Brew and Brownie opposite is pretty good. The museum gardens is next to the library, and is a nice park with picturesque ruins which joins onto the art gallery gardens which have outdoor sculptures and interesting plants.

From there you could go for a walk along the river, or walk around the city walls. If it rains there are lots of museums etc within a 10 minute walk. The Railway Museum is free, and there is sometimes a little road train that can take you there from opposite the Dean Court hotel (around 2 minutes walk from the café).

@firstdatehelpforoldie I was wondering where you ended up going and how your date went?!

FirstDateHelpForOldie · 27/04/2019 13:10

We haven't met yet, we are meeting this Monday afternoon so will keep you posted.
I have everything crossed as he seems really nice (I know they all do at the start) but we seem to have connected.
I have been single for 7 years and previously before that with my ex husband for 12 years so this dating thing is new to me so I haven't been on a first date for over 19 years so I am very nervous!
Will keep you posted

On my first date with my husband we met at City Screen (cinema with big comfy sofas in its cafe), then walked round the walls.

Olissa8 · 27/04/2019 13:46

Brew and Brownie or the Perky Peacock are both nice and near the station/library. Perky Peacock is on the walls and is my favourite but it's very small. A weekday afternoon shouldn't be busy though.

In York market there’s a cafe (tuder style building) it’s cheap and you get a free doughnut I used to be in all the time til we moved

FirstDateHelpForOldie · 28/04/2019 14:53

What is the etiquette for meeting up at a coffee shop? Do you meet inside or wait outside for the other one to arrive?

pinkphantom · 30/04/2019 13:47

Brew and Brownie and then walk around the museum gardens!
