Do you floss before or after

Brushing your teeth? At the dentist earlier this week and ashamed to admit to him I don't usually floss owing to my teeth not being that straight and the floss getting stuck. He showed me how to do it to properly and now I really want to do it daily and look after my teeth.

So... Do I do it before or after?

I usually do it last and then rinse afterwards.

I can tell I have teenagers, I was immediately thinking of The Floss! I suppose I could floss two ways at once after I've cleaned my teeth Grin

I suppose doing it before will dislodge particles that you can then brush away. It depends when I remember to do it so sometimes before, sometimes after

I do it before, because it seems weird to dislodge stuff after I've finished brushing.

dementedpixie · 19/04/2019 21:14

You shouldn't be rinsing at all after brushing

Sparklingbrook · 19/04/2019 21:14

I do it first, but instead of floss I have a Waterpik as some of the gaps between my teeth are too small to get floss in.

I also use the Tepe brushes every now and again.

catsmother · 19/04/2019 21:15

After! .... because brushing will remove much of the debris first. Flossing then takes out what's left inbetween that the brush can't get too. Then mouthwash.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 19/04/2019 21:16

Before.

I also waterpik. Do that first, rinse with a bit of mouthwash then brush. Don’t rinse after.

FadedRed · 19/04/2019 21:16

The little interdental brushes are easier to use and more effective than floss (according to my dentist anyway!) I use them before brushing, then rinse thoroughly after.

dementedpixie · 19/04/2019 21:16

Mouthwash shouldn't be used at the same time as brushing as it rinses away the fluoride left by the toothpaste. Its best used between brushing

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 19/04/2019 21:17

You shouldn’t rinse with mouthwash after either, it’s better to leave the toothpaste residue on your teeth.

TellySavalashairbrush · 19/04/2019 21:17

Dentist told me to floss (with dad of toothpaste on little brush flossed) before brushing. Never rinse after brushing.

Dad=dab

You're supposed to spit and not rinse after brushing

EngagedAgain · 19/04/2019 21:22

I brush, rinse, then floss and rinse. Do mine every other night, it's the best compromise as can't be arsed to do it every night.

dementedpixie · 19/04/2019 21:22

www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-body/how-to-keep-your-teeth-clean/ this says flossing before is best and not to rinse with water or mouthwash afterwards

shatteredandstressed · 19/04/2019 21:25

Stop rinsing after tooth brushing /flossing.
SPIT no rinsing is best for Oral health.

EdWinchester · 19/04/2019 21:25

I use the interdental brushes after brushing.

I also floss in the car Blush
