I have a splinter in the end of my thumb on my right hand. I can't get the little fucker out no matter how much I dig around with a needle and now it's just really bloody sore.

My mum suggested sugar and soap on a plaster overnight which she did for me but it did nothing at all. She swears blind it worked for her as a girl but is now wondering whether she should have wet the soap first......Hmm

It's only small but definitely too deep to dig out. I can see it but just get get at it. Any suggestions!??

I use savlon under a plaster: it inevitably gets wet too (i find only fabric platers have ebough staying power!). Might take a couple of days though, which will be a pain on the end of your thumb.

Magnesium sulphate paste with a plaster on top - leave overnight and it should be easier to draw out in the morning. You can buy it from a pharmacy for under £5.
