Bedbugs? Molluscum? Help!

MWestie · 18/04/2019 18:38

Can anyone help to identify this? On my sons torso and a few others on legs.

They're uncomfortable and slightly itchy and probably started about a week ago and have become worse.

I have no experience of either bedbugs or molluscum contagiosum and can't think what else it could be or from googling.

Any advice much appreciated.

Doesn’t look like the molluscum my son had. Go to the doctor.

dementedpixie · 18/04/2019 18:41

I don't think it looks like either of them. Molluscum look like wee skin tags/ warts. What do the torso ones look like?

mendandmakedo · 18/04/2019 18:43

Actually, think it does look like molluscum.

They look blistery, that's not what molluscum starts out like. Plus it doesn't tend to itch

troppibambini · 18/04/2019 19:06

I would say neither.
Not very helpful I'm afraid!
Molloscum has a pearly like centre and in my experience when they do pop it's like a white thick substance that comes out.

troppibambini · 18/04/2019 19:07

Has he had a plaster on? It looks like maybe a reaction.

Zacsmum25 · 18/04/2019 19:09

Looks like molluscum to me

Whattodofgs · 18/04/2019 19:32

Shingles?? Did they look like chicken pox

Notonthestairs · 18/04/2019 19:38

Has he been wearing a plaster to cover them over or was the plaster for something else?

We've been in the unfortunate position of having had both bed bugs and molluscum and it doesn't look like either to me. BB tend to bite 3x in a line and then wander off Envy so you'd be very unlikely to get that many bites in one small area.

As said up thread the molluscum develop a white center but they don't itch (or didn't on my DS).

PearlandRubies194 · 18/04/2019 19:39

It looks like a plaster was there - is it definitely not an allergy? My youngest had molluscum but they were pearl, shiny looking. I’d put some antiseptic cream on and see how he is over the weekend

MWestie · 18/04/2019 19:45

Oh replies, thank you all.

He's had chicken pox already, doesn't really look like it close up but was a long time ago. I thought shingles only when older? He's 11.

He's had a plaster over it today as his clothes were rubbing it but it was that bad before. Hard to get a clear picture really and not just, though mostly, on torso but a few single bumps on legs.

Is this pic any clearer?

It's driving us all crazy!

Scabies?

MrsWooster · 18/04/2019 19:48

That looks like early molluscum- esp the ones w centres... if they’re still there in 18 months, they’re def molluscum!

MWestie · 18/04/2019 19:57

Oh my god not scabies??

I tend to think it's Molluscum but that's just from googling, I've never actually seen it.

Any other suggestions, or tips on what to do if it is?

dementedpixie · 18/04/2019 20:03

Shingles can occur at any age. My ds had them age 3. Are the ones on the torso just on one side?

dementedpixie · 18/04/2019 20:04

Molluscum doesn't come up suddenly like that and it spreads gradually.

MWestie · 18/04/2019 20:09

It's on one side of his torso, two main patches. And then one or two single bumps elsewhere.

His skin's not particularly sensitive or reactive in general.

Looks like shingles to me. I had my first bout when I was 17. Always on one side of the body.

I'd see GP quick. If it is shingles early treatment really helps.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 18/04/2019 20:17

My eczema starts out like that. It flattens down unless I scratch it, then it comes up in little bumps.

picklemepopcorn · 18/04/2019 20:28

That looks like shingles, sorry. Try antihistamines, they should help, and go to OOH GP.

picklemepopcorn · 18/04/2019 20:28

Is it painful, or only itchy?

LittleMissPlump · 18/04/2019 20:30

I don’t think that it is molluscum thank goodness- those little buggers take years to go unfortunately in our experience. Although we have had great success with a lotion we bought on Amazon!

Beanybye · 18/04/2019 20:32

My DS 10 was diagnosed with Molluscum by well meaning Mumsnetters, it wasn’t, it was just an odd bumpy rash that cleared itself up so don’t panic about the suggestions on here.

MsChicken · 18/04/2019 20:33

Doesn't look like bedbugs bites.

MazDazzle · 18/04/2019 20:36

I’ve had molluscum and so have my DC. Looked absolutely nothing like that you’ll be relieved to hear!
