Males and vanity - is it common???

DS is off on a holiday with mates he is going to a sunny place. Just watching him prepare. Hours at the gym, waxing, and sunbeds, I wonder at the effort into going away a male puts in these days. Or is he a one off.

Ew, no. That's not every man normal.

Maybe it's a young man thing.
My DH would put a few clean clothes in a bag, his razor and his kindle and be good to go.

Not unusual these days the pressure to look beach ready is as much aimed at men as at women because diet and fitness is big business.

Because we women are never vain make up, new clothes, armies of shoes, shaving, plucking, dyeing.

It's so they look good in photos. Not just young women who succumb to the pressure

I'm guessing it might be a where you live/who your social demographic is - most of the men I know have long hair and hairy chests.

UK, many under 30's wax or shave these days. Not my cup of tea at all,I loathe it but it is completely the done thing these days.

God I'm getting old.

Younger men do all this stuff now to be insta-ready and probably what they see on the internet and pornography as well.

Not my cup of tea but young women are probably expecting it and have different standards to me (I'm only mid 30s though!)

I honestly don't think could show any interest in watching my son being waxed or on a sunbed- but you must have a unique relationship.

I always thought we’d reach equality when women were judged as little by their appearance as men. It turns out society is going about it by judging men’s queen by their looks too and making men as anxious about how they look as women.
Not good for either our sons or daughters.
