Anybody else in/near Faro at the moment?

We're on holiday near Vilamoura, nearing the end of a lovely, if eventful, 2-week holiday as a family of 5.

During our time here, 3 of us have had a sickness bug (touch wood all clear now), we've had no hot water at our villa for 48 hours, I left my Kindle on the plane & had to retrieve it from the airport & now there is a strike & no fuel in the region Shock

We had planned one last beach day tomorrow but now will hang around the villa, as the fuel light has just come on in the car! Will be lovely though.

I am trying hard not to panic as I've read that flights are still departing but just later & diverting for fuel, but I am a born worrier Grin

Anybody else in a similar situation?!

I am nearby! I'm not flying home for a few days so hopefully the situation will be sorted by then Confused.
Maybe your holiday will be extended! Look on the bright side!

confusedofengland · 18/04/2019 08:11

I think it should be easier after the Easter break.

I am not panicking too much, but I'm not keen on the uncertainty! It's just the little things, really, like we were going to have one last beach day today but can't now as we need to conserve fuel, things like that. But obviously a lot worse things can & do happen, so we are lucky really. I said to DH that we'll certainly remember this as an eventful holiday!

We flew home yesterday. We had to divert to France to get fuel which added an hour to the flight time, plus we set off 20 minutes late, but it wasn’t too bad. Some flights picked up fuel on the way in so no diversion and left on time. I’d check online to see if your flight is affected. Enjoy your last day.

confusedofengland · 18/04/2019 08:56

That doesn't sound too bad, howmanysleeps, glad you got home ok.

I live in the Algarve, it looks as though some sort of agreement has been reached, regarding ‘essential’ supplies so I would hope faro will be ok by tomorrow. There are also certain petrol stations being refilled, there is a list online, let me know if you want me to look up the nearest one to you

CottonSock · 18/04/2019 09:38

I'm in South Spain and we have colds and dreading the strike which is on our return date. Also a stupidly early flight. Plus it's raining and warmer at home! I think there is fuel, but not tried to get any yet.

XenakisCarter · 18/04/2019 09:50

@Costacoffeeplease Would you mind looking up the list for Intermarche Budens and also the petrol station at Faro Airport, please?

confusedofengland · 18/04/2019 09:51

@Costacoffeeplease thank you, good news indeed!

Any chance you can share the link to the list online? Or if not DM me please? Also, do you know if buses are running? We're near Quarteira if that helps. Thanks again!

@Cottonsock I hope things improve for when you need them to. Holidays are awkward when things don't go to plan, but they are always the ones you remember more Grin

Thank you that's great! Is there also a link so I can check for further updates please?

If you’re on Facebook join groups like life in Portugal or expats in Portugal to get updates in English, and from people in the relevant areas

Costacoffeeplease · 18/04/2019 10:27

Those lists come from a Portuguese newspaper

Costacoffeeplease · 18/04/2019 10:32

www.portugalresident.com/
Is one of the English language papers

Sorry for the disjointed posts I’m bottle feeding some abandoned kittens!

confusedofengland · 18/04/2019 10:34

Ooh great, thanks. I can read some Portuguese too so can have a bash at Portuguese and/or English sources.

Loving the sound of the kittens 😻

I think that every year, and every year I get another call Sad

confusedofengland · 18/04/2019 12:22

That is sad Sad We've seen quite a few strays in our fortnight here, but they look relatively healthy. I guess the pet culture is not the same as the UK?

Costacoffeeplease · 18/04/2019 12:52

It’s getting better, and there are lots of rescue organisations, but every year there are abandoned kittens and puppies - last year I bottle fed two separate litters of pups and another two of kittens. Kitten season has just started and I’ve had this litter for 3 weeks now

confusedofengland · 20/04/2019 09:22

Just an update: we just about got the car to the airport before it ran out of petrol Shock. It looked like the petrol station nearest the airport has fuel but we didn't go in as we weren't sure we had enough to detour! Our plane ran completely on time. No delays & a pleasant journey. We've come back to beautiful weather, too (23 degrees & not a drop of rain forecast)!

m00rfarm · 20/04/2019 09:30

Strike has been over for a few days now and most petrol stations have fuel.

confusedofengland · 20/04/2019 10:18

Where we were, that was the first petrol station we had seen with fuel (in about 25km), so I guess it's taking a while to filter back through to some areas Smile
