I want to move somewhere far away (not abroad though) and start again...basically, I want to run away. I am currently jobhunting so not tied to work.

Here's what you have to work with:

  • 42 years old so knocking on a bit
  • Practical, methodical, good timekeeping.
  • Want a physically active job.
  • Can't earn more than minimum wage (autistic)
  • Don't want to study (just can't - suspect ADHD too but can't face diagnostic process)
  • Secure council flat tenancy (possible swap?)
  • About £24k saved up
  • Background in warehousing and supply chain (full FLT licences - Reach and Counterbalance)

In an ideal world I would be living on a remote Scottish island on a croft in a one room hut with nae other fucker around for miles, but I don't think it's going to happen because, rather ironically, it would take a shitload of money to live that way these days.

I cannot honestly see a way forward from here. Any ideas, no matter how whacky, greatly appreciated....you never know, it might spark something off in me.

Cheers in advance.

I so want to suggest something awesome, but have zero ideas and one comment: why can't you earn more than minimum wage being autistic?? If I knew what the criteria was I would suggest silicon valley!!

I think you need to be more ambitious about the wage, too, but that’s by the by.

Do you want to travel? Would you consider HGV driving. It pays a lot more than the minimum wage and you can live wherever you like.

Just to clear up any confusion: by that I mean my autism means I personally am affected to the extent that that is all I will ever be able to earn - obviously there are shedloads of autistic people earning major wedge out there and I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

Looking at your list the sticking point is your council tenancy. Are you on home swapper? You would need a home first, then the local job, iyswim. Or would you be prepared to give up the tenancy and rent privately? This would give you more options of where to move but there are pros and cons. What about doing some trips to different places?
